The game was already decided, but the play perfectly illustrated just how easily Boyle County dominated the game. Visiting Pulaski County had finally scored with only 16.9 seconds left in the first half after Boyle already had amassed 48 points and over 300 yards of total offense. However, rather than let the clock run out, Boyle quarterback Brandon Smith lofted a perfect pass that Seth Tamme caught in full stride and easily outran two defenders for a 68-yard touchdown pass two seconds before halftime.

It has been five years since an area boys team last won the 12th Region, and it's likely to be at least one more year before it happens again. This is another season in which none of the eight teams in the Advocate's coverage area - roughly half of the teams in the region - seem to be in position to make the run to Rupp Arena over the next two weeks. Boyle County came close last year, capping a tremendous second-half turnaround with a drive to the regional title game before falling to Southwestern.

The Boyle County boys had one of the top teams in the 12th Region right where they wanted it, and they couldn't do a thing about it. The Rebels held a potent Pulaski County team to an unusually low point total Friday night, but their own lack of offensive production eliminated any chance of an upset. They committed 25 turnovers and managed only 14 baskets, an unhealthy combination that led to a 49-36 loss at Rebel Arena. Pulaski posted its lowest score in 37 games, but Boyle equaled its lowest total in 28 games, and coach Steve Adams said the Rebels' youth showed through.

SOMERSET - The Lincoln County girls basketball team picked up its ninth consecutive season-opening win over Pulaski County Monday night as the Lady Patriots defeated the host Lady Maroons 65-59. Lincoln, ranked No. 10 in preseason polls, wasn't clicking quite the way it did when it won the 12th Region title last season and marched into the Final Four at state, but the Lady Patriots overcame a sloppy start to fight off a strong challenge from their hosts. Pulaski opened up a 10-5 lead in the first quarter, was within two at the half and whittled a 10-point Lady Pat lead down to two with just 1:37 to play before finally bowing to Lincoln.  “It's been a long time since March 'til now,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.
