Defending regional champion Danville boys and Boyle County girls could each have their toughest matchups in the semifinals of the 12th Region Tournament, which begins Monday. The Danville boys Monticello in the first round Monday at Mercer County, but have a potential matchup with No. 9 Mercer in Wednesday's semifinals. Mercer beat Danville 6-1 on Sept. 26. The Titans, which went 7-0 in regional play, face Pulaski County in their first-round game. The Lincoln County boys play Somerset in their first-round game on Tuesday.

Marie T. Smith, 93, of Crab Orchard, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab. Born Dec. 18, 1918, in Pulaski County, Marie was a daughter of the late John Wash and Cora Larkin Abbott. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Odus Bryan Smith, who died on June 18, 1995; one son, Harold Smith; one daughter, Carolyn Brown; three brothers, Chester, Clinton and Oran Abbott; and one sister, Velma Acton.

Patricia J. Baugh, 69, of Science Hill, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington. Born Oct. 3, 1943, in Pulaski County, Patricia was a daughter of the late Clinton and Glyn Lee Patrick. She was a jewelry associate at Walmart and attended Northside Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William C. Baugh, whom she married on Feb. 9, 1963 and who passed away on July 14, 2008; and a brother, Russell Patrick. SOMERSET - Marvin Robinson rushed for one touchdown and Connor Patterson rushed for another for Lincoln County Friday night, but host Pulaski County scored 28 unanswered points between the two Patriot scores to take the Class 3A, District 7 opener 35-17. Lincoln opened a 9-0 lead in the first quarter before Pulaski responded with four straight touchdowns to take control of the game. “We had a good week of practice and I think it showed early on because our kids came out ready to play tonight.

The George Rogers Clark High School marching band still has work to do. Director Chris Yoo said the band has been practicing well and making improvement, but he hopes they fare better at this weekend's Pulaski County Invitational than their ninth-place finish at the Morehead State University Blue and Gold Marching Band Competition. “It was just one of those off performances, I guess,”¿Yoo said. The band competed against 21 other bands, and Yoo expects to face about that many in Pulaski County, as well.

Lottie Finley Godby, 75, died Friday, Sept. 14, in Stanford. Born Feb. 24, 1937, Lottie was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Nellie May Finley in Pulaski County. She was a housewife and a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Godby; one son, Delbert (Theresa) Godby; one daughter, Jannie Godby (Larry) Wilson; five brothers, Jerry Wayne, Tony, Ruson, James V. and Damon Finley; four sisters, Faye Price, Novella Anness, Camella Renner and Junella Belcher; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.

STANFORD - Lincoln County coach Mike Settles knows his players do not have any time to hang their heads after losing to Wayne County last week. District play begins this week, and the Patriots (3-2) open things up in¿Class AAAAA, District 7 at Pulaski County. “Last week was a poor performance in a lot of ways. But we have talked to the players about responding adversity. We have faced some adversity, but life is not what happens to us, it is how we respond to what happens to us,”¿Settles said.

Boyle County dropped a 25-21, 25-6, 25-18 decision to Pulaski County on Thursday night at Danville. Bailey Fowler had four aces, 11 assists and a dig, Griffin Blevins had two aces, four digs and four kills, Amy Woolum had two aces, a dig and two kills, Breanna Bailey had two digs and two kills and Lisa Talbott had two aces and four kills for the host Rebels (2-2), who host the Boyle County Invitational this weekend at Centre College.

Wayne Wilson, 70, of Science Hill, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, at his residence. Born July 6, 1942, in Pulaski County, Wayne was a son of the late Homer and Olvie Wilson. He was a used furniture salesman with Wilson's Used Furniture. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wayna Wilson; two brothers, Dallas and Carthel Wilson; and one grandchild.
