LANCASTER - Morgan Crutchfield was named Miss Garrard County Fair on Saturday night. First runner-up was Donna Carol Burton; second runner-up, Ashton Gooch; and Miss Congeniality, Presley Rogers. Danielle Poynter was named Miss Teen Garrard County Fair. First runner-up was Madison Crutchfield; and second runner-up and Miss Congeniality was McKenzie Ison. On tap tonight at the fair are: 7 p.m., open goat show (weigh-in at 6 p.m.) and Junior Preteen and Miss Preteen pageants; and 8 p.m., Clementsville Motorsports truck pull.

HARRODSBURG - Mandy Jenkins, daughter of Eddie and Tammy Jenkins, is the new Miss Mercer County Fair. She also won the interview and swimsuit awards. First runner-up was Cara Drury, daughter of Carroll and Lou Ann Drury. Second runner-up was Shameika Townsend, daughter of Paul and Sandy Ellis. She also was named Miss Congeniality. Third runner-up was Charlotte Pinkston, daughter of Darrell and Jane Pinkston. Fourth runner-up was Carey Gash, daughter of Steve and Teresa Gash.

LIBERTY - A Pulaski County teen was named Miss Casey County Fair during a pageant Monday. Brittney Collett Shoap, 19, daughter of Mark Shoap and Tammy Bastin, both of Somerset, received the crown. Iris Nicole Peyton, 18-year-old daughter of Bill and Beverly Peyton of Hustonville, was the only contestant from Casey County that placed in the pageant. She was second runner-up. Other runners-up were: Skye Squires, 16, daughter of Dwayne Squires and Donna Patterson of Campbellsville, first; Alison Renea Cain, 20, daughter of Joe and Peggy Cain of Russell Springs, third; and Britney Susan Hadley, 19, daughter of Darrell and Patsy Hadley of Jamestown, fourth.

To ensure her rivals and “crinkles” both remain at bay, her highness orders her stepdaughter, Snow White, to remain out of sight in her room. To remain beautiful, the queen subjects herself to treatments employing parakeet poop and bee stings.

Oct. 16, 1987 George Rogers Clark High School will crown its homecoming queen tonight at halftime at the GRCHS Cardinals-Madison Central football game at Cardinal Stadium. Vying for queen are Heather Shea, Glenda Bell, Connie Burton, Brenda Hudson, Dana Dixon and Stephanie Kash. Class attendants are Melanie Hubbard, freshman; Robyn Grace, sophomore; and Andra Rosenthal, junior. Winchester has been designated a Certified City for the sixth consecutive year by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

George and Peggy White have lived in the same stone house since they built it in 1965, but they never thought they would encounter a problem like the one they are now facing. Almost five years ago, Peggy noticed a large number of honeybees were living inside the wooden porch on the second floor of her home. George tried to plug the entrance hole and even insulated along the edge of the porch in an attempt to keep the bees away, but the bees only multiplied in number. For three years now, they have searched for someone to move the bees.

Sept. 7, 1982 Lora McNabb, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack McNabb, 7 Hood Ave., was declared the winner in the Little Miss Kentucky River Contest by Congressman Larry Hooking Sunday afternoon during the Hopkins Admiral's Day Parade at Fort Boonesborough State Park. Amy Doty, 16, of Lexington, won the Miss Kentucky River Contest. The Labor Day queen and her court were guests of honor during the annual Labor Day Parade on Main Street at noon Monday. Ursula Patton, 16, was named Labor Day queen.

As the UK Hoops team crowded around the flat-screen television in Coach Matthew Mitchell's basement, they were all handed blank printable brackets so they could fill in the names of their mystery opponents. A hush fell over everyone as the ESPN Selection Show started, with analysts unveiling the first bracket. It was when the second bracket was revealed that guard Jennifer O'Neill stopped filling hers out. The Bronx, N.Y. native saw the “Queens” location pop up, and then the name of her team, the second-seeded Wildcats.

Six young ladies are hoping to be chosen the 2012 Winchester Labor Day Queen Sunday evening. The lucky young lady will be crowned at 6:30 p.m. Sunday during festivities at the Labor Day Celebration at Harmon Field Park. Those vying this year are: - Kaylee Raymer, 17,  is a senior at George Rogers Clark High School. Her hobbies are playing volleyball, writing, reading and spending time with family. She is the daughter of DeAna Raymer. - Alexus Thomas, 15, is a junior at George Rogers Clark High School.

She is a junior at George Rogers Clark High School. Her hobbies are shopping, spending time with friends, texting and babysitting. - Aaliyah E. Stewart is the daughter of Lula Stewart. Donna Crim didn’t take long to figure out the recipe for a successful restaurant in Winchester — if the beer cheese is good, the people will come. When Donna and her husband Jim took over operations of the Southwind Sports Bar in 2001, they began working on their own recipe. It took them a few years to perfect, but eventually the Crims settled on a blend of cheese, beer and spices that the customers loved. “You’ve got to have good cheese. We don’t use the cheap stuff,” Jim said.

After taking a trip to Nevada last year to compete for a national singing title only to fall short, Cheryl Roberts of Nicholasville got a second chance this year and made the most of it, winning first place in the country division of Talent Quest National Karaoke Singing Contest in September. Cheryl, 23, won a regional competition at J.D. Legends in Nicholasville to qualify for the national competition in Laughlin, Nev., last year; this year, her qualification was more of an accident.

All the hard work and the countless miles put in over the golf course during the course of the summer nearly paid off in perfection for Korey Coleman of Hustonville. Coleman, a Lincoln County High School senior and No. 1 player for the Lady Patriot golf team, finished at No. 1 in seven out of 10 Pepsi Junior Golf Tournaments in the Girls 16-18 Division this past summer to emerge as the No. 1 points leader and 2010 Player of the Year. “I can’t say I was surprised because I had been keeping up with the points totals,” said Coleman.
