Twenty-two members of the Clark County Ponies and Partners 4-H Club participated in the State 4-H Horse Show in Louisville. Of these 22 4-H members, four youth received high or reserve high point in their respective divisions. Miranda Richardson received the Linda Kohnhorst Memorial Scholarship. She will attend the University of Kentucky this fall.  Ten members rode in the Drill Team competition. The team, led by Chelsea Haddix and Sarah Geddes, earned 10th place. Team members included: Sarah Clark, Carrie Cockerham, Andrea Crawford, Caleb Everman, Katelyn Fraley, Sarah Geddes, Tiffani Goodwin, Chelsea Haddix, Caycee Shimfessel and Megan Stults.

Members of the Clark County 4-H Ponies and Partners 4-H Club have been very busy this month showing and participating in horse knowledge events at the district and state levels. Eighteen members displayed their horsemanship skills in the District 4 4-H Horse show at Lakeside Arena. Twelve of these youth received High Point and Reserve High Point honors in their respective divisions. As an exhibition and practice event the eleven member Clark County 4-H Horse Drill Team also presented their horsemanship drill to the crowd at Lakeside.

Clark County 4-Hers recently submitted 132 4-H Cloverville entries at the 2011 Kentucky State Fair. The results are listed by participant in alphabetical order. Grafton Arrowood - Horticulture, white ribbon. Kyla Arrowood - Country Ham, blue ribbon. Samantha Ball - Arts, Class Champion and two blue ribbons. Clay Berryman - Country Ham, blue ribbon. Clark County recently held its annual Spring Demonstration Contest at the Clark County Extension Office. Participants presented demonstration speeches to the judges. The contest was open to any Clark County youth ages 9-18. Youths were divided into two age divisions, junior and senior, and could give a demonstration on a variety of topics. champion ribbon winners will compete next at the Bluegrass Area 4- H Communication Festival on Saturday, April 25. Winners were: Junior food: Leah Penticuff, champion, blue ribbon, Pilot View; Morgan Baker, blue ribbon, Pilot View; Zach Conkwright, blue ribbon, Pilot View; Gabby Young, blue ribbon, Pilot View; Haley Strejan, blue ribbon, Pilot View.

Twenty members of the Clark County 4-H Ponies and Partners 4-H Club have been busy this month. Seventeen members displayed their horsemanship skills in the District 4 4-H Horse show at Lakeside Arena. Six of these youth received High Point and Reserve High Point honors in their respective divisions. Thirteen youth have qualified for the Kentucky State Horse Show held in July in Louisville. Eight youths teamed together to showcase their knowledge of the horse and industry at the State Horse Bowl competition held in Lexington.

Eighteen students and the 10-member drill team competed at the State 4-H Horse Show recently. At the State 4-H Show, members showed their 4-H Project Horses in one of the following Divisions: Hunter, Western Judged, or the Walking/Racking/Mountain Horse Division. Participants were  divided into age groups or event type within the divisions. Club members qualified for the state 4-H Horse Show in June. Hunter Division Callie Miller: Showmanship II: fifth place, blue ribbon; Hunt Seat Equitation Over Fences 2'3”: white ribbon; Hunter Under Saddle II: red ribbon; Hunt Seat Equitation II: red ribbon.

Fifteen Clark County youth participated in the Bluegrass Area Communications Festival last weekend in Powell County. Participants presented speeches and demonstrations in the eight county contest. Congratulations to the following individuals for an excellent job! Champion youth will compete in the State Communications Contest in Lexington Saturday, July 13. Fannie Bush Elementary students and staff, along with Glenn Leveridge and Tammy Carroll from Central Bank, released red balloons Monday. The balloons signified drug awareness for students and teaching them to say “no” to drugs and to make it a lifetime commitment. Students also wore red shirts to commemorate the event. Each balloon was tagged with information about the school and the event in hopes to discover the distance and to inform others about drug awareness. Fannie Bush Family Resource Center sponsored the balloons.

Conkwright Middle School recently celebrated Red Ribbon week with a variety of fun and educational activities. Conkwright’s counseling department and Family Resource Center created a program that made the student’s aware of drug abuse, a serious problem facing our youth today.   Activities included a school-wide art contest run by yearbook sponsor Daniel Ward. The students made artwork promoting a drug free life. The winning student, Shelby Stocker’s artwork,  with her button entitled “Do the Dougie, not the Druggie,” pointed out that there are many other things to do instead of drugs.
