Bob and Brenda Anderson of Richmond announce the engagement of their daughter, Kristin, to Anthony Shick, son of Andy and Deanne Shick of Lexington. The bride-elect and the prospective groom are graduates of George Rogers Clark High School and Eastern Kentucky University. A late June wedding is planned in Shelbyville. The couple will reside in Fort Rucker, Ala.

The Blue Grass Army Depot, located between Richmond and Berea, is hosting its first Wounded Warrior Turkey Hunt March 29 through April 1. Wounded Warriors from Fort Campbell and Fort Knox have been invited to attend to practice and rebuild their hunting skills and to participate in the turkey hunt, March 31, from sunrise to 3 p.m., according to depot officials. “Blue Grass Army Depot has a healthy population of wild turkeys and is proud to offer this opportunity to our wounded warriors,” BGAD land manager Nathan White said.

Charles Vernon Sullivan, 89, husband of Reva Huff Sullivan of Winchester, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Clark Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sullivan was born in Lily on March 3, 1922 to the late Jess and Deva Black Sullivan. He was a former used car lot owner, former employee of the Blue Grass Army Depot and the former co-owner of the Little Sack Grocery in Richmond. He attended the First Church of God, was a Kentucky Colonel and was a World War II Army veteran.

LANCASTER - A portion of Richmond Street in Lancaster was shut down for nearly eight hours Tuesday after a pickup truck toppled a utility pole. A driver was traveling on the highway about 6 a.m. when he slid off the road and into a pole in the 400 block, Lancaster Assistant Police Chief Allen Weston said. Though the driver was uninjured, the accident downed several power lines and knocked out the electricity in two nearby homes, Weston said. Lancaster firefighters arrived on the scene about 6:20 a.m. to divert traffic away from an approximately 1-mile stretch of Ky. 52 heading away from Lancaster Public Square.

JOHN ROBERT BROOKS JR. John Robert Brooks Jr., 86, of Richmond, formerly of Winchester, husband of Emma Ruth Lawson Brooks, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at his home. Mr. Brooks was born in Clark County on Nov. 2, 1925, to the late John R. Brooks Sr. and Sallie E. Stanfield Brooks. He was a retired truck driver for pipeline construction and a heavy equipment operator. He worked on the Alaskan Pipeline and on other projects in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, South America, the U.S. and Canada.

The Richmond man found dead Nov. 25 along Taylor Road east of Danville died as the result of manual strangulation, according to Boyle County Coroner Dr. Don Hamner. Hamner said Thursday the determination of a cause of death of 27-year-old Michael Dean Begley Jr. was made in Frankfort where the body was sent for an autopsy. Commonwealth's Attorney Richie Bottoms said a week ago that his office plans to take the case before a grand jury on Wednesday. Begley's body was found before dawn the day after Thanksgiving by a motorist who alerted authorities.

IRVIN WILLIAM GENTRY Irvin William Gentry was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Clark County and departed this life on Dec. 10, 2011, at UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Irvin and Helen Blythe Gentry. He was preceeded in death by a son, Mryon William Gentry and his sister Virginia Hooten. William was a former employee of Stephenson Motors in Winchester, where he began his career as an automobile mechanic. William was known as one of the best mechanics in his field.
