Lincoln County took advantage of 11 walks and three errors to defeat Rockcastle County 15-1 in five innings Thursday night at Stanford. Gabby Gabriel went 3 for 4 with four RBIs for host Lincoln (9-13), which also had eight hits. Kristin Meece scored four times for the Patriots, who scored four runs in each of the first two innings and five more in the third. “We had really good at-bats tonight for the first time in a long time and demonstrated patience at the plate. It sure helps your offense when you bat through the lineup each of the first three innings,” Lincoln coach Kevin Bandura said.

LANCASTER - Sometimes the numbers just don't make sense. You wouldn't think, for instance, that one would be greater than 10, but that might well have been the case Tuesday night at Garrard County. The 10 runs Garrard generated were overshadowed by one play that cost the Golden Lions dearly in a 16-0 loss to Rockcastle County at Garrard Middle School. The error extended what became a seven-run second inning, part of a stretch in which Rockcastle scored 15 runs in three innings.

The weather for Boyle County's softball team's season opener was more fitting for a late-season football game. But it made no difference to the Rebels, who had been practicing in this stuff for weeks, and made it show with a 7-1 beating of visiting Rockcastle County on Tuesday. “Coach (Brian) Deem has been really good about getting us out in the field during the cold,” said senior pitcher Elysse Petrie, who picked up the win. “During practice when most teams are inside, we've been outside practicing.

FRANKFORT - A redistricting plan passed by state house Democrats would change the geography and number of Lincoln County's representative district, but local Rep. David Meade says its unlikely to become law. The plan, which passed the Kentucky House of Representatives 53-46 last week, would place Lincoln County in District 55, along with Casey County and a portion of northwestern Pulaski County. Lincoln currently sits in District 80, along with Rockcastle County and a small portion of Pulaski.

MOUNT VERNON - The Lincoln County girls' basketball team picked up its second big road win of the week Friday night, handily defeating Rockcastle County 68-35 at Rock Arena. Lincoln fell behind to start the game, but senior Kourtney Belcher sparked a 16-4 run with a steal and a basket that would eventually earn the Lady Patriots the lead - one which they would never relinquish. “I thought we did a good job. From top-to-bottom, everybody that played tonight contributed in some way,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.

MOUNT VERNON - Lincoln County used a 17-3 scoring run over the second and third quarters to open up a close game and set the Patriots on course for victory Friday at Rockcastle County. Lincoln, beset by poor shooting and a lack of rebounding, fell behind early and trailed for most of the first half, but the run ignited by a BJ Hoover layin late in the first half turned those early struggles into a double-digit lead as the Patriots moved on for a 58-42 win, their first of the season.
