Kentucky's quest to make sure it always has a full compliment of offensive linemen continued with the Wildcats' recent scholarship offer to 6-5, 300-pound Rockcastle County junior offensive lineman Brad Durham. "He has a world of potential. He used to play basketball, but he stopped so he could lift weights and get stronger," Rockcastle County assistant coach Chris Larkey said Thursday. "He moves well. He is real quick on his feet. " Durham attended UK's junior day in January.

Cawood Dedman scored 19 points, Savannah Taylor added 12 points and Mercer County got a big lift from its bench Tuesday to blow out visiting Rockcastle County 63-40. “This was a very good win for us. Savannah played sick and Catheryne (Claunch) got hurt in the second quarter and did not play the rest of the game,”¿Mercer coach Chris Souder said. “We had some kids come in and play well. It's nice to know you've got kids who can step up when others get hurt.” Kandace Gash scored nine points off the bench for Mercer (15-5)

MOUNT VERNON - Lincoln County used a 17-3 scoring run over the second and third quarters to open up a close game and set the Patriots on course for victory Friday at Rockcastle County. Lincoln, beset by poor shooting and a lack of rebounding, fell behind early and trailed for most of the first half, but the run ignited by a B.J. Hoover layin late in the first half turned those early struggles into a double-digit lead as the Patriots moved on for a 58-42 win, their first of the season.

The weather for Boyle County's softball team's season opener was more fitting for a late-season football game. But it made no difference to the Rebels, who had been practicing in this stuff for weeks, and made it show with a 7-1 beating of visiting Rockcastle County on Tuesday. “Coach (Brian) Deem has been really good about getting us out in the field during the cold,” said senior pitcher Elysse Petrie, who picked up the win. “During practice when most teams are inside, we've been outside practicing.

A dramatic late-season turnaround for the West Jessamine Lady Colts came to an emotional end Monday. The Lady Colts earned 10 of their 13 victories since April 22; slightly past the season's midpoint. The club's 8-4 Memorial Day loss came at the hands of Rockcastle County, who they ran by just into their midseason tear. "I thought that obviously coming in, we had a better chance than that (to win)," West head coach Michelle Baker said. "We made several mistakes defensively that wound up costing us; mistakes that we've not been making here in the recent few weeks.

The Lincoln County High School Lady Patriot volleyball team was denied a victory Tuesday night as the host Lady Rockets of Rockcastle County shot down Lincoln 2-1. The Lady Patriots (1-1) took the first set 25-21, but the Lady Rockets (2-1) took flight in the second set and never looked back, rolling 25-11, 25-9.  “Rockcastle is a tough team - no shame. We were just really hoping to pull out the win, especially after that first set,” Lincoln coach Amanda Massey-Wiles said.  Lincoln never trailed in the opening set, keeping Rockcastle at a comfortable distance for most of the set. But Rockcastle would answer.

Lincoln County had three golfers shoot 45 or lower in the Lady Patriots' home opener at the Dix River Golf Course, but two Rockcastle County golfers shooting sub-40 rounds would help carry the visiting Lady Rockets to the match win. Rockcastle's four-man total of 174 was eight strokes better than the second-place Lady Pats, who finished at 182 in the tri-match. Clay County followed in third with 188. Hannabeth Owens and Lexi Young both carded a 39 to lead Rockcastle to the win. Keeley Goff followed with a 47 and Callie Asher and Mackenzie King both had 49. Gentry Lewis was one of the three Lady Patriots posting rounds in the low to mid 40's, leading the way with a 43. Maggie Taylor followed with a 44, and Kayla Davis finished at 45.  “I thought we played much better today than we did Tuesday (against Casey)

Ronnie Bottoms said the Boyle County boys have a lot to look forward to and only a little to like at the moment. But one thing the Boyle coach has to like is the fact that his team is getting by even though he might not be getting its best. The Rebels scratched out a victory in their second game that was much like their first, fighting off Rockcastle County for a 74-67 victory Tuesday night. "We're just like any team in early December," Bottoms said. "We've won two games very ugly, and we know that our best basketball is way ahead of us. " Still, there were a couple of stretches in this game that were pretty good.

SOMERSET — If anyone knows how to stop Rockcastle County, it’s Randy Salyers. But that means the Casey County coach also knows full well how difficult it can be. Casey and Rockcastle have played each other more than any two 12th Region opponents since Rockcastle moved into the region six years ago, and the two teams will meet again at 7 p.m. today for the championship of the girls 12th Region Tournament at Pulaski County. The 47th District rivals have become quite familiar with each other, and Salyers has seen enough of the Rockets and their McDonald’s All-American, center Sara Hammond, to know that she isn’t the only player the Rebels will have to stop tonight.
