RUSSELL SPRINGS - It was a game only a mother could hate. The Boyle County Rebels liked it just fine, even though they were trying to gain ground on a Russell County field that had the consistency of chocolate pudding. Boyle prevailed through deplorable field conditions Friday night, getting the upper hand in a hurry and keeping its mistakes to a minimum to defeat Russell 16-8 in its regular-season finale. The Rebels plowed their way to their fourth straight win through goop that turned their white jerseys brown.

RUSSELL SPRINGS - The party's over at Casey County. The Rebels had plenty to feel good about after opening the season with a win, but they were feeling the wrath of coach Andy Stephens after a decidedly different kind of game Friday night. Stephens was frustrated after seeing his team fall flat at rival Russell County, which took advantage of visiting Casey's struggles to post a 30-12 win. The Rebels said a week earlier that their opening win over Grant County could be a catalyst for the rest of their season, but they sputtered for two-thirds of this game.

"Our play should improve as kids get in better shape. We also expect to have several more players join the team in the next week or two, and that will give us a little more depth.
