LEXINGTON - John Calipari says he was just trying to follow in the footsteps of former Indiana coach Bobby Knight - who has been a huge Calipari critic in recent years - when he lobbied for the Kentucky-Indiana series to be played at neutral sites. “I wanted to do what Bobby Knight did, and what he did was he decided the series should be neutral and when it was, it was huge with the Battle of the Flags and all those other things. He was the first one who made it neutral. I liked the idea because we had to move someone neutral and it was logical to be them,” Calipari said Tuesday.

Apparently Kentucky coach John Calipari has heard enough criticism about his scheduling. He used his website, coachcal.com, on Wednesday to let Kentucky fans know what lies ahead for the Wildcats - and did so not long after the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics, an alliance of faculty senates from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, blasted him for dropping Indiana from the schedule. "University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari recently announced that Kentucky will apparently demand that its non-conference basketball games be played off campus to provide better pre-professional training to the 'one-and-done' players it recruits, accommodate non-student fans, and increase revenues,” the coalition noted.

Kentucky coach John Calipari used coachcal.com today to explain his thinking on UK's scheduling now that Indiana and North Carolina won't be on next year's schedule by explaining that UK is “not a traditional program” and will use its own model for scheduling. “We are going through things that no other program in the history of college basketball has gone through. No other program is losing five or six players a year. We are facing issues and having to make decisions with the thought of what's next and where are we going, which includes our schedule,” Calipari posted on the blog.

The day, a beautiful one, began as most days usually do. A rather long to-do list had been prepared, and plans, in some detail, had been made for the activities of the day. Realizing the number of things on that long list and what had to be done before the day ended, I was somewhat eager to begin the activities of the day. With the plans I had made before me, I began to work, and everything seemed to go exceedingly well. I was pleased and pleasantly surprised. One task after another was completed on time and as planned.

Some area residents are concerned that Danville High School and Boyle County High School are both having their graduations this year at 7 p.m. May 19, which could force some people to choose which relative's ceremony to attend. Unless inclement weather interferes, the last day of school for Danville students is May 11 and the last day of classes for Boyle County students is May 17. In Boyle County's case, it makes sense to hold the graduation ceremony on May 19, said Superintendent Mike LaFavers.
