Mr. Glennis Edward Blanton, 72, of Science Hill, passed away Thursday, March 8, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Harlan County, Glennis was a son of the late Walter and Carolyn Hess Blanton. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic for Vaught Bros. Mfg. and enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends and relaxing in the swing with his dog, Princess. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Bertha Lewis Blanton; and stepmother, Grace Blanton.

Mr. Joel Allen of Lancaster announces the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his daughter,Tiffany Joy, also the daughter of the late Angela Ayres Allen, to Mr. Joshua Robert Wesley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wesley of Science Hill. Tiffany is a graduate of Garrard County High School and Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla. She is an employee of Gray Construction in Lexington. Josh is a graduate of Somerset High School and the Department of Criminal Justice Training and is an employee with the City of Somerset Police Department.

STANFORD ? A shoplifting incident at Walmart led to the discovery of a rolling meth lab Thursday night, according the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. Thursday, Deputy Sim Thacker responded to the shoplifting incident at Walmart at 9:50 p.m. Wilburn T. Kidd III, 27, of Science Hill, and Kimberly B. Flynn, 27, of Lancaster, were arrested for allegedly taking less than $500 in merchandise from the store. Further investigation by Thacker led to the discovery of what the sheriff's office call a "rolling meth lab" in the vehicle Kidd and Flynn occupied.

Myrtle Haddix Sumner, 87, of Science Hill, died Saturday, Aug. 8 at her residence. A native of Loss Creek, she was born Nov. 13, 1921, to the late Bradley and Mary Grigsby Haddix. She was a homemaker and the widow of Delmos Sumner. She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Seified; a daughter, Mary Lou Sumner, who died in infancy; and two brothers, William "W. C. " Cager Haddix and George M. Haddix. Survivors include two sons, Glenn (Eva Sue) Sumner and Mike (Peggy Joyce)

Caden Gerald Pennington, 7 months, of Bethelridge, died Monday, Aug. 3 at University of Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Lexington on Jan. 4, 2009, to Loren and Karen Spears Pennington. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Fred Pennington. Other survivors include one sister, Sabrina Pennington of Bethelridge; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Margaret Spears of Science Hill; paternal grandmother, Ruby Jennings of Nancy; and maternal great grandmother, Martha Spears of Science Hill.

Claude Hubert Absher, 85, of East Highway 452, died Monday, July 20 at his residence. A native of Occonnita, Va., he was born Aug. 13, 1923, to the late Andrew Jackson and Annie Mae Temple Absher. He was a truck driver for Eldridge Truck Line, a member of Etna Church of Christ and a World War II veteran having served in the European and Pacific theaters of operation. He was also preceded in death by four half sisters, Ruth Shultz Upton, Barbara Whitaker, Myrtle Dowden and Opal Absher; and one half brother, Charles Absher.

Guston W. Godbey, 83, of Science Hill died Thursday, July 16 at the home of his son. A native of Casey County, he was born April 28, 1926, to the late Everett and Vida Lee Godbey. He was an employee for Kingsford Charcoal, a member of Senior Friends and the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Science Hill, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, an avid gardener and the widower of Betty Irene Jones Godbey. Danny Ray Blanton Sr., 64, of the Woodstock community, died Saturday, July 4 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. A native of Pulaski County, he was born July 16, 1944, to the late Reuben and Hilda Singleton Blanton. He was a truck driver and a member of Woodstock Baptist Church. He liked fishing, boating, working on cars, mowers, weed eaters and sitting on the front porch watching traffic. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Leon Blanton; one sister, Frances Colson; and one grandson, Austin Dykes, who died in infancy.

Danny Baugh, 57, of Danville, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Tuesday, July 7 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. A native of Waynesburg, he was born Nov. 1, 1951, to the late Lonnie and Opal Maurer Baugh. He was a plumber. He was also preceded in death by a son; Daniel James Baugh; and a brother, Lennie Baugh.
