Last week it was Elijah Bell. This time it was Kevo Edwards. The Scott County running back rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 40-6 victory over George Rogers Clark Friday night at Cardinal Stadium. Although Edwards didn't match Bell's 369-yard effort in the Cards' 53-36 loss at Henry Clay a week ago, his presence was a difference-maker in the battle of the birds. He set the tone with 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half. “They're a quality football team,” Clark coach Steven Collins said of the Cardinals, ranked No. 3 in this week's Class 6A prep football poll.

The Boyle County boys gave up a goal with 15 seconds remaining and dropped a 2-1 decision to Scott County in their season opener Tuesday night at Georgetown. Scott (1-0) scored the winning goal when a forward sliced through the defense and bounced a shot off the far post and into the net. Boyle (0-1) managed to get off a shot in the closing seconds, but it was wide. “What a heartbreaker tonight's game was. This was a battle between two evenly matched teams. Both teams played with a lot of enthusiasm and fire,” Boyle coach Cris McMann said.
