Arresting suspected prostitutes hasn't curbed the problem in downtown Winchester, so police are trying a new angle. They're arresting the customers. Friday, Winchester Police conducted an undercover operation around Main Street and several side streets. In less than four hours, detectives arrested five men for prostitution and could have arrested more. “We're not looking to lock people up for months and months,” Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said. “We want the potential customers to know we're going to be out there.

LIBERTY - Earl Pendleton, 58, of West Ky. 70, has been charged on a warrant for third-degree sexual abuse, according to Sheriff Jerry Coffman. Pendleton is accused of having sexual contact with a Casey County woman without her consent. He is under a $500 bond and scheduled to appear in Casey District Court Aug. 17.

A northern Kentucky man is facing federal charges for allegedly having sexual contact with a 14-year-old Richmond girl.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Timothy Scott Richerson, 39, of Greensburg, was arraigned Friday in federal court in Lexington on charges of using a computer to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. If convicted, Richerson could receive a life sentence in prison. According to prosecutors, Richerson met the girl through MySpace.com, where he had a page portraying himself as a 16-year-old boy. After communicating with the girl during the summer, Richerson allegedly drove to Richmond in September 2007, picked her up at her home and drove to be a nearby location where they allegedly had sexual contact.

A Berea man accused of first-degree sex abuse earlier this year is scheduled to appear in a Jessamine County court Nov. 10 for a status hearing. Christopher Koteras, 36, of Berea was indicted in May on 24 counts of first-degree sex abuse that allege he had sexual contact with a child under the age of 12 in Jessamine County between July 9, 2007, and June 15, 2010. He entered a not-guilty plea June 1, according to court records. Koteras was arrested May 21 and posted a $20,000 cash bond May 24. His status hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in Jessamine Circuit Court.

A Danville man pleaded guilty last week to sodomy and sexual abuse charges stemming from incidents that occurred in 2002. Rodney Rosenberry, 37, of 425 Patrician Place, was sentenced in Boyle Circuit Court to 20 years for second-degree sodomy and five years for first degree sexual abuse. The sentences will run consecutively, and he was given credit for 318 days served. Rosenberry was indicted by a Boyle County Grand Jury in February. In the indictment, he was accused of engaging in deviate sexual conduct with a male child less than 12 years old as a continuing course of conduct between November and December, 2002.

A Jessamine County grand jury indicted a Nicholasville man on three charges of first-degree sexual abuse last week. Darrell Barnett, 65, of 709 N. 2nd St., was arrested Tuesday at his residence and taken to the Jessamine County Detention Center. Barnett allegedly had “sexual contact with a child less than 12 years of age,” between Nov. 1, 2010, and Dec. 16, 2010, according to the grand jury’s indictment. Barnett bonded out of jail Thursday by paying $10,000 full cash, a booking officer at the detention center said.

HARRODSBURG - A Harrodsburg man has been indicted for allegedly breaking into a woman's home in Mercer County and forcing her into sexual contact. Charles Spaulding, 43, of 427 Cardwell St., Apt. 2, is charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly breaking into the woman's home on July 1 and engaging in sexual contact “through the use of forcible compulsion,” according to the indictment. The Advocate-Messenger does not usually name victims of sexual abuse.

Christopher Koteras was convicted in open court for eight counts of first-degree sex abuse of a child by a Jessamine County jury on Tuesday. The jury recommended 40 years, five years for each count, for his sexual contact with the victim between July 9, 2007, and June 15, 2010. Koteras, 36, was taken back into custody and is being held in the Jessamine County Detention Center until his formal sentencing by Judge Hunter Daugherty set for Sept. 20. Originally, Koteras was indicted in May of 2011 on 24 counts of first-degree sex abuse.

A former East Jessamine track coach pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse last week and will be formally sentenced in December. Gary Overstreet, 30, was arrested Feb. 24 after Nicholasville police had called him in for questioning. He was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class-D felony. Former Nicholasville police Maj. John Branscum said in February that both incidents involved the same alleged victim, a minor student at East Jessamine High School. Overstreet was indicted on both counts and pleaded not guilty in March.

A Wilmore man accused of first-degree sexual abuse involving a 10-year-old will appear in Jessamine Circuit Court Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. According to court records, Andrew H. Bagwell, 46, was arrested by Wilmore police April 13; in May 2011, he was indicted on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, “by subjecting (victim) to sexual conduct while child was less than 12 years old.” Bagwell pleaded not guilty in circuit court June 15. HARRODSBURG - A Harrodsburg police officer was suspended Wednesday after he was indicted by a Mercer County grand jury on nearly 150 counts related to allegations he had an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage female. Officer Jason Elder, 31, is charged two counts of third-degree rape, 48 counts of third-degree sodomy and 96 counts of first-degree sexual abuse. All 148 counts are Class D felonies, punishable by one to five years in prison, and allegedly occurred between November 2007 and November 2010.

A former corrections officer at Northpoint Training Center has been indicted by a Boyle County grand jury for allegedly bringing Valium on to prison grounds in July. Jesus Alfredo Cabrera , 37, 420 Chestnut St., is charged with first-degree promoting contraband, a felony, on July 28, when he allegedly brought 12 blue pills believed to be Diazepam on to Northpoint property. A summons was issued for Cabrera to appear for arraignment Nov. 5 in Boyle Circuit Court. Kentucky State Police Detective Monte Owens testified before the grand jury.
