Just in time for Mother's Day, the tough guys at Boyle County High School made their mothers proud by posing in the T-shirts the team will be selling all season to raise money to help local people who are fighting cancer. “It was their idea,” proud team mom and leader of the Quarterback Club, Debbie Sabastian, said. Her son, Cody, along with teammates Justin Roution, Levi McKinney and Keegan Kendrick came up with the idea after seeing a similar, successful fundraising effort by one of their own to help an aunt who was struggling with the added expenses of daily life after receiving a diagnosis.

Anthony Haigh's first serious girlfriend gave him a pair of turquoise-and-pewter cuff links. Since then, he's added comedy-and-tragedy masks, mother-of-pearl, and a set that includes the English flag and the British flag. Most were given to him by parents, or a sister-in-law, or his wife, Joan. "She picks them up in thrift shops if she sees something interesting," Haigh notes. Cuff links, Haigh says, add a touch of class to an outfit. "The nice thing about cuff links is they're like dressing up without dressing up," he explains.

The joke didn't last long, but a few people had a good laugh driving over the newly opened viaduct. Initially, the white lines were put down with tape that didn't stick all that well. The tape didn't stay in straight lines. A reader mentioned it could get dangerous if you actually tried to stay with the yellow lines, which went off at angles. Maybe drivers were being directed to look at the "church window" design that was put back in railings after an effort to retain the old character of the bridge was made by the Heart of Danville.

It's not everyday that one sees firefighters wearing pink shirts to work, but this week and every Friday in October, members of the Nicholasville Fire Department are doing just that. The reason is simple: To help raise awareness of breast cancer. "We were just talking about it here at the station, and it's just a way to give back," Firefighter Donnelly Barnes said. "With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it started off with just us wearing the T-shirts to bring awareness to it. " It quickly morphed from there.

Tim Brumfield was a little surprised that his mustache was such a powerful fundraising tool. Danville's Deputy Fire Chief was one of 11 firefighters who had their heads shaved by Amy Gibbons from Studio Glitz on Friday afternoon in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. However, Brumfield only agreed to part with the trademark facial hair he has sported since high school if he could raise $500 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a national breast cancer charity. Fellow firefighters eagerly obliged Friday, kicking in the last $150 to liberate Brumfield's upper lip of its ubiquitous cover.

When Brandon and I first moved into our house, we came to an agreement on some household chores. Since he hates laundry so much, he volunteered to clean the toilets if he never had to do another load. I have never minded laundry that much, so I thought that sounded like a pretty good deal. Then I got the bright idea to start washing - and ironing - his work shirts, rather than sending them to the dry cleaner. While we were divvying up chores, we also created a budget, which is what led to my brilliant plan.

LEXINGTON - Defensive tackle Donte Rumph is hard to miss when he walks into a room just because of his size (6-3, 308 pounds). However, it was impossible not to notice him Monday when he came to Kentucky's weekly press conference wearing a T-shirt that said “Beat Louisville” on the front. Less than 48 hours earlier, Kentucky did not beat Louisville. The Cardinals outplayed UK and won 24-17 to put UK's bowl streak in serious jeopardy. Rumph said it was “kind of an accident” that he wore the shirt - teammates Nick Melillo, Martavius Neloms and E.J. Fields wore more traditional shirts - but he was also wearing the shirt for motivation.

East Jessamine High’s school council reached a compromise with parents on its dress code Monday after weeks of confusion and inconsistent enforcement of the clothing guidelines. The council amended the dress code — which had been changed to its current state in January — to allow necklines of shirts to fall up to 2 inches below the collarbone as long as no cleavage is visible. The previous code had required students to wear crew-neck shirts, turtlenecks, or polos or buttoned shirts.
