Skype - a leading Internet telephony company - has been offering free, unlimited calls in their SkypeOut service that ends Dec. 31. Last week, the company launched a new premium SkypeOut plan for U.S. and Canadian customers. The new plan will go into effect beginning Jan. 1. Under the new SkypeOut plan, Skype users can make unlimited SkypeOut calls to mobile phones and landlines within the U.S. and Canada for only $29.95 per year. Currently, the company is running a promotion where if you sign up for the new plan before Jan. 31, you can get a 50 percent discount.

Hispanic Heritage Month is designated as Sept. 15-Oct. 15 to celebrate the culture and traditions of those who come from the Spanish-speaking countries of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The celebration begins mid-month because Sept. 15 marks the independence of five Spanish-speaking countries - Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Furthermore, two other Spanish-speaking countries - namely Mexico and Chile - also celebrate their independence within that same week.

The Speed Art Museum of Louisville has launched the Kentucky Online Arts Resource. KOAR is a "free image database devoted to documenting the state's decorative arts, fine arts, folk arts, and design. " The KOAR database includes works from both private and public collections. It features images of people and items made or used by Kentuckians, including furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, textiles, paintings, sculptures and others. The database is searchable by keywords, artists' names and by an object's type and place of origin.

Skype, a popular peer-to-peer global telephony company, is offering a great way for folks to save loads of money. It is providing free calls within the United States and Canada to all phones until the end of the year. Skype users always have been able to make free call between each other using the Skype client on a computer. But any calls made from Skype to a regular landline phone or cell phone would require the purchase of SkypeOut minutes. With its latest offering, folks can use Skype to call free from their computer to landline or even to a mobile phone.
