CRAB ORCHARD - Crab Orchard Parks and Recreation is taking registration for spring baseball, softball and T-ball leagues through March 15. The parks board is also looking for anyone wanting to have a girls fast pitch softball team (ages 7-9, 10-12 and 13-16). Teams are also being sought for the open, church co-ed and men's leagues. A small group of about 50 people gathered at Nicholasville Elementary School Saturday afternoon to honor the 2011 inductees to the Jessamine County Parks and Recreation Hall of Fame. The nine members enshrined this year were J.R. Banks, Tommy Orme, R.J. Corman, Sherman Dean, Jay Buffin, Dan Young Shearer, Monte Carpenter, Andy Williams and Ronnie Crowe. • Banks coached youth soccer for more than 10 years as well as T-ball and Little League. Off the field, he has been one of the largest financial contributors to youth sports for more than 30 years.

Abigail Baxter, a 2008 graduate of West Jessamine High School, was named to the All-American first team last week at the USCAA softball finals. Baxter is a freshman at Southern Virginia University, in Buena Vista, Va. She was also named to the first team Academic All-American team. Baxter attended West Jessamine High School and played softball for the Colts. She is a freshman at SVU. She played softball at West Jessamine high. Baxter was seventh in the league with five home runs and 10th with a .472 batting average.

Dear Editor, My daughter's recent letter regarding Jerry Perry's frequent commentary on his softball team brought tears to my eyes. Neither of us wishes to hurt Perry's family. Their support of the team and of the individual players through the years was always above and beyond and truly appreciated. My daughter longed for instruction while playing ball for Danville. She never minded being given criticism on her playing ability. What hurt her were the comments that she was "lazy" and "unmotivated.
