Many people have an annual spring cleaning routine which includes washing windows, cabinets and woodwork. This year, be sure to take time to also “spring clean” your financial records. Sort through your old financial paperwork and identify any that are old and can be shredded or thrown away. Remember, it's always a safe idea to shred any paperwork that contains any personal information, especially bank account, credit card or other financial information. Do you have old utility bills, credit card bills, ATM receipts or cancelled checks lying around the house?

Spring is almost here - time to spruce up your house and get rid of your clutter. But this year, don't confine your spring cleaning to your home and yard. A reader recently contacted me wanting advice about their nearly 3-year-old Compaq Presario model SR1103WM. Lately their computer has become extremely slow in performance. They wondered if I would recommend they purchase a brand new computer because of it. The reader uses the computer for e-mail, Web surfing, desktop publishing and for storage of photos and items from Web sites. After checking out the specs on their system on HP's Web site here, my recommendation was to upgrade their current system.

It is official: Danville Pediatrics' “Wild West” exhibit has ridden off into the sunset, marking another successful blockbuster exhibit at the Community Arts Center. Now the arts center is poised to launch into a whole new year of exhibits, events, classes, community outreach, and more, but first: a little spring cleaning is in order.  For one, what comes up must come down - the numerous “Wild West” buildings, props, furniture, displays, artwork, collections, and activities all have to be dismantled, packed away, and in many cases, returned to their proper owners.

It is almost one of my favorite times of the year again - spring. Spring doesn't officially begin until March 20, but I am already getting in the spirit. Spring is my favorite season because the weather warms up, the flowers begin to bloom and everything comes to life. It is also the time for spring cleaning. Just in time for spring cleaning, Boyle County is having a household hazardous waste collection day. HHW collection day will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Boyle County Fairgrounds.  This is a great and safe way to dispose of toxic items you would not normally be able to get rid of easily.

Our farmers, growers and gardeners are getting ready for the 2012 season. It's nice to see the gardens and fields being turned in preparation for planting. Only four more weeks remaining until the farmers market opens.  Daylight Savings Time is here. Time to come out of winter dormancy and re-energize. Spring cleaning, household repairs, readying decks and porches for outdoor get-togethers as well as mowing the lawn are now the focus.  Our vineyard has been pruned but there are remaining chores to do up there.

Nice weekend! There is still a little chill in the air but the trees, grass and flowers know it’s time to grow. Everything is leafing out and many of the fruit trees are in blossom. The birds are nesting and our bees have been out in force gathering pollen everywhere they could for the past few days. We are trying to finish up household projects before we get too busy with gardening and the Farmers Market. I need to finish painting inside and do some spring cleaning. I don’t mind painting walls and trim but moving everything in order to do it is a chore.

It all came about with my first viewing of a red-breasted robin slurping up a worm out of my garden. This happened on Saturday, Feb. 19, and I was excited because I knew there would be other signs before long.   Sure enough, the tulips were well above the ground and letting me know it wouldn’t be long before they would be in full bloom of beautiful pink, purple, yellow and white along my sidewalk in the backyard. Just the thought of this sight made me decide to change the wreath on my front door and sit a spring flowerpot on my front doorstop.
