MORELAND - A Kings Mountain man was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday night after a Stanford man shot him from a distance with a shotgun. Adam Alford, 18, of Stanford, has been charged with first-degree assault after admitting to shooting at Farren Rowland, 48, of Kings Mountain, along Ky. 1194, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. According to a news release, Alford told police he shot at Rowland with a .410-gauge shotgun from a second-story apartment window while Rowland was sitting in a vehicle.

STANFORD - A Stanford man was arrested Friday at Cedar Creek Lake on multiple charges related to leaving minor children alone there, including a 4-year-old who witnesses say had to be rescued from nearly drowning. Eric D. Jarboe, 44, was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He also had warrants for nonpayment of fines and alcohol intoxication. A group swimming at the popular beach off U.S. 150 east of Stanford called Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger to report an obviously intoxicated man had left kids there.

STANFORD - Two days after a church hayride accident that seriously injured an 8-year-old Stanford boy, local law enforcement has not released any information about the incident. Jalen Smith was injured Sunday evening during a church hayride at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. According to a WKYT report, the boy suffered a serious leg injury in the accident and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital. A spokeswoman said this morning that Jalen was listed in serious condition.

STANFORD - A man and his daughter were airlifted with unknown injuries after a car overturned Sunday night north of Stanford. Doug Rayborn was driving east on U.S. 150 about 6:45 p.m. when the crash happened just outside Stanford city limits. Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff Ryan Kirkpatrick said Rayborn's vehicle traveled out of its lane and dropped off the left shoulder of the road “for an undetermined reason.” “It went into a 180-degree slide, hitting a culvert, which caused the vehicle to flip onto its roof,” Kirkpatrick said.

A Lincoln County man was arrested on drug-trafficking charges after a 13-year-old girl called the sheriff about possible drug activity at her home. Jon Simon Reynolds, 32, of Stanford, was charged with second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and having a prescription controlled substance not in its original bottle Thursday when law enforcement officials discovered pills hidden in the trash at 8145 Old 150 East, Apt. 5. Sheriff Curt Folger received permission from another resident of the property to conduct a search and discovered the pills, which he said were oxycodone and alprazolam.

STANFORD - A 34-year-old Stanford man has been arrested after a mother complained he was attempting to marry her 15-year-old daughter. Stanford police charged Chris Gosser, 34, of 115 Cotton Ave., with one count of unlawful transaction with a minor May 14 based on a criminal complaint filed by Telleta Hocker. The complaint states Gosser "has continuously called, text(ed) and been seeing (Telleta Hocker's) 15 year old daughter after being told numerous times to have no contact with her. " On May 8, Gosser's sister, Tonya Wine, took Hocker's daughter to a trailer park where Gosser lives, according to the complaint.

STANFORD - An approximately $7 million upgrade to Stanford's wastewater treatment plant that began in mid 2011 is all but complete, providing the city with about half again as much sewer capacity as before. Water Department Manager Ryan Owens said it should only take a few more weeks to make final "tweaks" to the system and wrap up the project. The upgrade includes a digester and "rotary fan press" for compressing sludge - the final, mud-like substance leftover after processing sewage - for transport to a landfill, Water Department employee John Crowe said.

STANFORD - A Lincoln County father shot and killed his son in what may have been self-defense during a domestic dispute at a home on Meadowbrook Road north of Stanford. Michael Henson, 42, was shot in the torso late Saturday night during a firefight with his father involving multiple guns, Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum said. "There was a lot of gunfire that was exchanged in the house," Marcum said. "There were several guns in the house. " Henson's father, 75-year-old Ray Henson, is being interviewed by state police detectives but no charges had been filed as of this morning.

Austin Tyler Manning was stillborn Friday, Aug. 24 at the Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. He was the son of John and Cristy Grimes Manning of Stanford. Other survivors include a sister, Madison Manning; maternal grandparents, Mike and Teresa Grimes of Lancaster; and paternal grandparents, Jerry and Cathy Manning of Stanford. Graveside services were Aug. 27 at Buffalo Springs Cemetery with Jody Coontz officiating. Spurlin Funeral Home of Stanford was in charge of the arrangements.
