Walker Earl Rowe Sr., 76, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, April 24, at his home. Born April 21, 1937, in Mount Vernon, Walker was a son of the late Gilbert and Mattie Renner Rowe. He was the owner of County Line Auto Sales for 30 years, a member of the Pentecostal Faith and loved racing, cars, and going to auctions. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rowe; and one sister; Hazel Lucas. Survivors include his companion and dear friend for over 30 years, Linda Durham; three sons, Walker (Deborah)

STANFORD - Lincoln County and Garrard County squared off on the softball diamond Monday with the No. 2 seed in the 45th District on the line. When the final out was registered, it was the Garrard Lady Lions securing the No. 2 spot, shutting out the host Lady Patriots 5-0. The Lady Lions (15-11, 3-1 district) scored one run in the top of the third inning to give starting pitcher Kenlea Norton all the help she would need. Norton got the complete-game win, limiting Lincoln to just four hits and not allowing a single runner past third base.

Micah Miniard struck out 13 batters in a two-hitter Monday as Boyle County defeated Lincoln County 4-0 at Stanford to clinch the top seed for the 45th District Tournament. Miniard allowed two hits and six walks for Boyle (12-6, 5-0), which has a 2 1/2-game lead in the district standings. Casey Whittle hit a three-run home run and drove in all four of the Rebels' runs, Brady Wehmiller went 4 for 4 and Connor Blevins had two hits. Whittle's homer in the fifth inning off Lincoln reliever Zach Brown gave Boyle, which has won five of its last six games, a 3-0 lead.

Janessa and Edmond Clay Bryant of Danville announce the birth of a son, Josiah Clay, 12:09 p.m. April 4 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. The baby weighed 9 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 21 inches. Maternal grandparents are Ceasar and Karen Suarez of Stanford. Paternal grandparents are Genevieve Bryant of Danville and the late James Bryant. Great-grandmothers are Chastine Parker and Mary Lee Segar, both of Danville. He joins brothers, Jarius, 7 and Nolan, 4.

Jesslyn Long and Jordan Kelsey are happy to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. Jesslyn is the daughter of Greg Long and Theresa Long, both of Stanford. She is a 2011 graduate of Campbellsville University and currently attends Eastern Kentucky University. Jordan is the son of Bill Kelsey and Pam Stephens,both of Stanford. He is a 2010 graduate of Campbellsville University and is currently employed at PremierTox. The wedding will be held at 4:30 p.m. May 11 at Grace Fellowship Church, with a reception following at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Warner of Liberty, Ky., and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Cooper of Stanford, Ky., announce the engagement of their daughter, Kassi Maegan Cooper, to James Bryce Danhauer, son of Mr. And Mrs. Bruce Danhauer of Morganfield, Ky. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Bryan and Carolyn Cooper of Stanford and the late Bob and Sally Brammer of Stanford. She is a 2006 graduate of Lincoln County High School, and holds a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education at Western Kentucky University.

LANCASTER - A Garrard County grand jury has indicted a Stanford man on charges that he twice forced a woman to have sex with him. Jordan Floyd, 23, of 3345 Wilderness Road, was indicted on two counts of first-degree rape for allegedly using forcible compulsion to engage in sexual intercourse with a woman on two separate occasions between March and August 2012. Bond was set at $50,000. Trooper Rodney Wren testified before the grand jury. Others indicted were: William R. Owens, 33, 205 Hamilton Ave., Lancaster, 24 counts of possession of material portraying a minor in a sexual performance, allegedly having such material between March 10-12 of this year.

J.T. Sowders, 89, of Stanford, died Saturday, April 20 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. He was born January 25, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late George and Bessie Ballard Sowders. He was the widower of Dorothy Hager Sowders. He had worked at Corning Glass in Danville as a forklift operator, he was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member and deacon of Fairview Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, James C. "Jimmy" Sowders (Faith) of Midway Park, NC; six grandchildren, Darlene Ponce, Jimmy Sowders, Jeff Sowders, Joey Sowders, Jennifer Lins and Corey Elder; two step grandsons; thirteen great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
