Stepson

George Callahan and Rob Tanner are related by marriage - and the military. Callahan and Tanner, both of Danville, were brought together 35 years ago when Callahan married Tanner's mother, June. At 47, Callahan was old enough to be the grandfather of the 7-year-old Tanner, the product of a previous marriage. But over the years, Callahan became fatherly, even though the father role would still be occupied by Tanner's biological dad. And Tanner became like one of Callahan's own. The two have a strong bond forged not only by sharing the same household but by their patriotism and long stints in the Navy.

Craig Robert Steven Taylor, 24, son of Tammy Taylor O' Daniel and stepson of Troy O' Daniel died Friday, Feb. 1. The family has chosen Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home for arrangements which were incomplete at press time.

JAMES A. SMITHERS James A. Smithers, 74, of Clark County, widower of Mildred Robinson Smithers, passed away Monday at the St. Joseph Hospital.   A native of Clay City, he was born Aug. 8, 1937, to the late Lewis and Ethel Crowe Smithers.   He was retired from IBM.  He is survived by a stepson, Ronald R. (Barbara) Bush of Lexington; grandchildren, Justin, Evan, and Veronica Bush; and numerous cousins.  He was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Bradley Bush.

Anthony “Tony”  Ray Jones, 41, husband of Shawn Jones, died March 19, 2013. He was the son of Sally J. Jones and the late Ray C. Jones. Tony was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. Additional survivors include a stepson, Corey Rogers; two brothers, Rick and Randy Perkins; a sister, Lynn Strange; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Services were at 8 p.m. March 22 at Betts & West Funeral Home. Judy French Lively, 69, widow of Edward Lively, died Nov. 27 after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Jessamine County and daughter of the late John and Evaline Wells French. She was a former employee of McClane Company. Survivors include a stepson, Tim and wife Kelly Lively; four stepgrandsons; brothers Carl “Bill” and wife Marcella French, and Bobby and wife Barbara French; sisters Betty Jean Pritchett, Barbara and husband Richard Horton, and Kathy and husband Reynold Solomon; a special friend, Bobbye Orrill, and numerous other family members.

Robert F. "Bobby" Johnson, 78, of Crab Orchard, died Tuesday, July 7 at his residence. A native of Orrville, Ohio, he was born Sept. 27, 1930, to the late Lawrence and Ruby Reynolds Johnson. He was a retired construction inspector for the Army Corp of Engineers, veteran of the Air Force and a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Dana McLaughlin. Survivors include his wife, Joann Taylor Johnson; one stepson, Carey (Jill) McLaughlin of Louisville; two step grandsons, C. J. and Chad McLaughlin of Louisville; two aunts, Ann Scalley of Tampa, Fla., and Thelma Jean Baumgardner of Nellysford, Va.; and several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Frank Allen, 72 of Ross Road, Garrard County, died Monday, Nov. 12 in Lexington. A native of Rockcastle County, he was born Aug. 30, 1935 to the late John and Annie Drew Allen. He was an employee of the Garrard County Fiscal Court, a former employee of the Almhurst and Castleton Horse Farms, and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Kirksville. Survivors include his wife Linda Malear Allen; six sons, Hughie (Donna) Allen, Danny (Louavia) Allen, Paul (Jamie) Allen, Johnny (Shawnetta)

EDITH MAE CROCKETT WHITE Edith Mae Crockett White, 84, of Winchester, widow of the late Earl Ralph White, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Richmond Place Rehabilitation and Health Center. She was born in Indianapolis on Nov. 19, 1927, to the late Charles Lee Crockett and Charlotte Jackson Robinson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Tipton (Mike) of Stanton and Pamela Tolson of Winchester; a son, Ronald Snowden of Lexington; a stepson, Ralph Wayne White (Glenda)

Beatrice Irene Poynter, 85, of Stanford, died Friday, Aug. 17 at Fort Logan Hospital.  Born Aug. 26, 1926, in Lincoln County, Beatrice was a daughter of the late William and Betty Young. She was a retired seamstress, a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and the widow of Calvin Poynter. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Marion and William Young; and sisters, Lucille Denham, Christine Burgess, Edna Bastin and Opal Dawson. Survivors include one stepson; Michael  (Diane)

Jimmy Ray "J.R. " Brown, 61, of Hustonville, formerly of Monticello died Sunday, Jan. 20 at his home. A native of Wayne County, he was born Dec. 25, 1946 to the late Hub and Oreta (Stringer) Brown. He was the widower of Christine Miller. He was also preceded in death by one stepson, Stacy Ray Edwards. Survivors include a son, Jackie Ray "J.R. " (Mary) Brown; one step son, Ralph Turner; two step daughters, Debbie Stringer and Susie Miller; and two sisters, Jessie Mae Sullivan and Debbie Acrey.

LEXINGTON - The wife of a Danville man indicted Tuesday in Fayette County on a drug trafficking charge has also been indicted in the same case. Assistant Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney Brad Bryant said Thursday that Regina Banks was indicted for first-degree trafficking in oxycodone. Her husband, Jimmy Lou Banks, was indicted on the same charge Tuesday. Due to an error in the indictment, it was incorrectly reported in Wednesday's The Advocate-Messenger that Jimmy Banks was indicted for attempted trafficking.

David P. Hassloch, 68, of Lexington, formerly of Nicholasville, died Sunday, Oct. 16, at his home. He was the son of Dorothy Thornton Hassloch and the late Ernest Hassloch. He was a life member and former vice president of the Nicholasville Lions Club, in which he served on numerous committees, the National Street Rod Association and former member of the Lexington Jaycees. David was a member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church, widower of Mary Ester Nickell Hassloch, and retired employee of Philip Wiese Plumbing.

Jerry Jackson Vanderpool, 63, widower of Rebecca Ruth Roland Vanderpool, a long time native of Jessamine County, passed away Oct. 20, 2008. He was born Nov. 16, 1944 in Danville to the late Eugene Glass and Grace Duncan Vanderpool. He was the owner and manager of Kentucky Trade Bindery and an active member of Brookside Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Jenny and husband James Doolin and their daughter Jessica of Nicholasville, a stepson Linny and wife Angie Cloyd and their two daughters, Katie and Allison of Florence, two brothers, Gene and his wife Bonnie Vanderpool of Indiana, Scotty and his wife Judee Vanderpool of Danville and a sister in law, Jackie Vanderpool of Florida and other family members.
