The Jessamine County-City of Wilmore Joint Planning Commission approved plans to subdivide land off Marble Creek Road Sept. 14 after it had denied the owners’ previous request for a variance. Surveyor Rick Moore, representing Greg and Diana Davis, came back to the commission with an application to divide the 84-acre property into nine lots after requesting an exception in July to road-widening requirements for owners who subdivide their land. The Davises had initially proposed dividing the land into four properties and said they would have to create more lots to offset the costs of widening the road.

LANCASTER — Property owners in a northern Garrard County subdivision may soon have a new charge showing up on their annual tax bill, but it’s of their own choosing. When the Hamilton Springs subdivision was constructed in the 1970s, its roads weren’t built up to county standards and as a result have never been brought into the county road system. Judge-Executive John Wilson said when roads aren’t maintained by the county, they don’t receive maintenance services like pothole repair or road clearing when there’s snow and ice. Wilson said the roads in Hamilton Springs have been so bad at times in the winter that school buses and emergency response vehicles couldn’t drive into the subdivision, Wilson said.

Danville police continued to find unoccupied homes burglarized with copper missing Tuesday. After discovering evidence of a burglary and copper theft at 1000 Nokomis St. early Tuesday, police were alerted to similar scene at 209 Candlewood Drive. Assistant Chief Tony Gray said copper was taken from the house in the same manner as previous incidents. That makes six burglaries since Friday where the motive and method of the thieves appear to be the same. They are targeting houses that are for sale and taking copper from underneath the structures and from air-conditioning units.

The Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission denied a request for a 16-plat subdivision at the intersection of Jones Nursery Road and Gentry Lane Tuesday evening at the commission’s regular meeting. Property owner David Estill planned to subdivide 74 acres of the 336-acre parent tract, which is currently zoned for agricultural use. Director of Planning and Development Rhonda Cromer recommended that commissioners deny the request because, she said, a subdivision in the area would be incongruent with the 2004 Comprehensive Plan.

STANFORD - Road construction standards for Lincoln County subdivisions were amended and a 78-lot subdivision plan was approved Tuesday night by unanimous vote of the Lincoln County/Cedar Creek Planning Commission. The commission approved an amendment to make its road requirements mirror the county's. "We want to make ours consistent with the county's," said Chairman Robert Edwards. "We've got our regulations out of sync a little bit with the county's. " The amendment increases the required crushed stone base under subdivision roads from 4 to 6 inches to a solid 8 inches.

HARRODSBURG - Mercer County Fiscal Court has granted a waiver to two men developing an eight-lot subdivision off of Chimney Rock Road. Pete McEachern and Dwight Cotton requested a waiver on the required width of the road going through the subdivision to protect old oak trees growing near the road's planned location. They discussed the issue with court members when the court met Tuesday morning. The men appeared before Greater Harrodsburg/Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission last week, saying the private road they proposed is 18 feet wide.

HARRODSBURG - The Greater Harrodsburg/Mercer County Planning and Zoning Commission approved two controversial plans, both of which had been before the panel in months past. The first was the plan to allow the development of a subdivision off U.S. 127 North behind Jeff Sachs Auto. City government asked the panel to table the plan for Harrods Glen last month because there were not enough fire hydrants in the subdivision. Developers decided to add 10 hydrants, and although they are called flush hydrants, they suited the city.

Over a neighbors' objections, Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning on Wednesday approved Joedy Sharpe's proposed development off of Ky. 33 and Buster Pike. Sharpe plans to build a subdivision with 145 lots on 64 acres. Neighbors opposed the development, saying it will not fit in with the agricultural area, and that there are natural and historical features to the farm that would be destroyed. Sharpe has agreed to pay the city more than $95,000 to help build a sewage trunkline and pump station in the area and bring city sewer to the development.
