LANCASTER - The city council voted Monday night to adjust the pay grade of the incoming superintendent after the resignation of Lancaster Wastewater Plant Superintendent Millard Rose. Rose is quitting after 26 years of service to the city, with his official last day to fall on Feb. 15. Rose said in a phone interview he is leaving simply because he is “too old for all this bickering,” regarding questions and disagreements with the budget being spent at the sewage treatment plant.

Aug. 9, 1987 The state will resurface 1.4 miles of Muddy Creek Road, Gov. Martha Layne Collins has announced. Richard H. Wengert, forest supervisor of the Daniel Boone National Forest, will host a three-day management team meeting in Lexington next weekend for Forest Service officials from 13 different southern states. Conference speakers will include other forest supervisors and directors of several agencies, including the Regional Fisheries Program. NEW YORK (AP)¿ - A Pan Am jetliner and a TWA¿jumbo jet came within 600 feet of each other in a near miss that apparently was caused by an air traffic controller who transposed the number of a flight, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

Katrinna Featherston, daughter of Nicholasville resident Sharon Lanham, received a Forensic Services Support Award from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) on Oct. 10. A 17-year KSP employee, Featherston is a forensic laboratory supervisor at the KSP Central Laboratory Branch in Frankfort. She is a 1987 graduate of Jessamine County High School and a 1991 graduate of Western Kentucky University.

Aug. 27, 1961 Mrs. Hazel Adams, associated with the city and county schools 17 years as teacher, supervisor and principal, has been named instructor and supervisor of student teachers at Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, S.D., beginning Sept. 1. Mrs. C.G. Cowgell of Owensboro is visiting her daughter, Mrs. A.H. Stephenson, and Mr. Stephenson at their home on Moundale Avenue. Miss Corinne Cowgell, who accompanied her mother to Winchester, left Friday night for a several days' stay in New York City and will return later for a visit here.

Nov. 6, 1960 Eight students from the Clark County chapter of the National Forensic League attended the fifth session of the model United Nations held Friday at Transylvania College, Lexington. Those attending were Laura Ecton, Carole Etzler, Bill Grant, Benny Hays, Janice Humble, Margaret Nickell, Ben Rake and Marcia Silverman. Miss Nancy Cawood, sponsor of the group, attended the meeting. The Clark County students represented the delegation from Iran. Harold R. Johnson has accepted a position with the Cumberland National Forest, according to an announcement by supervisor Robert F. Collins.

Frank Beum, a Forest Service veteran who began working for the agency as a seasonal employee in 1981, has been named forest supervisor of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky, according to Regional Forester Liz Agpaoa. "Frank's strength of leadership is a reflection of his diverse work experience," Agpaoa said. "He has served at many levels of the organization, and we look forward to welcoming him as the newest member of our regional leadership team. " The Southern Region encompasses 13 states from Virginia to Florida and Oklahoma and Puerto Rico.
