Dear Editor, I would like to thank the cast and crew of Perryville Baptist Church for the production of "The Living Last Supper" on the evenings of April 14 and 15. I think a town the size of Perryville was very fortunate to have this put together, and I would also like to say a job well done by all involved. I would recommend that everyone in the community see this if you ever have the chance, and again Thanks! Gary Cummins Perryville

There are two Bobs in my life. One lives in North Carolina and the other in Buena Vista, Colo., and, with both, I maintain an active email correspondence. Last week the Buena Vista Bob emailed me that he and his wife Laurie wanted to visit us and bring supper and asked what day suited us. Well, what a wonderful gesture. Ever since last January, my whole existence has been about gaining weight and frankly, I am pretty darn sick and tired of cooking and eating as many calories as humanly possibly every single day. Therefore, for anyone to want to cook for me and bring it to our house and share the eating of it with me - well, I could not email back fast enough to accept his offer.

The recent days of extreme heat have made many of us scale back in the kitchen. While we may skip recipes that would require us to use our ovens, we don't have to skip on taste and good nutrition. Fresh vegetables are beginning to be harvested in backyard gardens and many of our Farmers Market Producers are selling local grown produce now as well. A great way to use these fresh vegetables and not spend a lot of time in the kitchen is with salads. Homegrown tomatoes are one vegetable that benefits from our hot, humid summer days.
