Chili and bean supper set Saturday MORELAND - A chili and bean supper begins 5 p.m. Saturday at Moreland Fire Department at the junction of Ky. 1194 and Ky. 2141. Cost for "all you can eat" is $5. Moreland Fire Department chili supper The Moreland Fire Department will hold an all-you-can-eat chili and bean supper on the corner of 1194 and 2141 on Saturday, Oct. 18 starting at 5 p.m. Cost is $5. For more information, call (606) 346-2391. All proceeds will go to 2008 fire prevention. Crab Orchard monument fund-raiser A bean and chili supper will be held Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Broughtontown Community Center for upkeep and additions for the Crab Orchard Veteran's Monument.

The Lincoln County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows: Lincoln County High School: June 16-20. Breakfast served 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. McGuffey Sixth Grade Center: July 29. Breakfast served 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stanford Elementary: June 9-12 and June 16-19.

SYLVANIA RETIREES Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram retirees will meet for lunch Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11:30 a.m., at the Taste of China on the Winchester Bypass. All retirees are welcome. CHRISTIANS UNITED AGAINST DRUGS Winchester-Clark County Christians United Against Drugs will meet Feb. 9 at the People Helping People Building on Wainscott Avenue at 10 a.m. The public is invited.

Jan. 14, 1983 Earlier this week, Robert L. Baldwin, an engineer, and James Baker, and Dick Yeary, engineering aides, were on top of The Winchester Sun building preparing to shoot the North Star to get a true north reading. Data obtained in the reading will be utilized to aim a satellite dish at Western Union's Westar III satellite. Once the dish is in lace atop The Sun building, the newspaper will receive news from the Associated Press via satellite rather than the conventional telephone land line.
