STANFORD - Four girls scored in double figures for Lincoln County on Tuesday night, and that was more than enough in a battle between the 12th Region's top teams. Emily Fox and Sydney Harris scored 18 points each to lead the quartet as Lincoln defeated Mercer County 64-55. Kourtney Belcher added 16 points and Ciara Saylor had 10 points as the Patriots picked up their 20th win of the season and remained undefeated against regional opponents. “I've said before that if we can get three players in double figures that we're hard to beat and tonight we had four in double figures,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.

BOWLING¿GREEN - With her Lincoln County team down 13 points early in the second quarter, coach Cassandra McWhorter just wanted the Patriots to give themselves a chance to get back in the game. They got that chance, trimming Owensboro Catholic's lead to three points on four occasions before cold shooting eventually did them in, as they fell 66-55 in the first round of the state tournament Thursday at E.A. Diddle Arena. “This is not where we want to be sitting right now. We wanted to get that game in hand.

SOMERSET - The Lincoln County girls took the first step toward defending their 12th Region title as they knocked off Somerset. The Lady Patriots jumped out to a 23-17 lead in the first quarter then struggled through offensive slumps in the second and third periods before making some adjustments and coming away with a 62-43 win over the Lady Briar Jumpers in the first round of the tournament Thursday at Pulaski County High School. “I talk to the girls all the time about a game being a lot like a puzzle, and that if the pieces don't fit together it makes things ugly,” Lincoln coach Cassandra McWhorter said.

STANFORD - Not everything about the game pleased here, but Lincoln County coach Cassandra McWhorter liked what mattered most. “I told my team to do the bad things we did and keep battling and come back and win against a good team like this shows me a lot,” said McWhorter after her team outlasted Danville 72-69 in double overtime. “We had won the championship game in overtime by one point in Florida against a team from Virginia that had not been beat and then went to Disney World and didn't finally get home to about 1:30 (p.m.)

SOMERSET - The Lincoln County girls are just one step away from reclaiming their regional title. Lincoln overcame a major obstacle on the way to a possible repeat by defeating Mercer County 66-59 in a girls 12th Region Tournament semifinal Monday night at Pulaski County. “It was one of the biggest games of the season. No, it was the biggest game of the season,” Lincoln senior Kourtney Belcher said. “It's just one game at a time as coach (Cassandra) McWhorter says, and we had to make sure we got this one. It was just the biggest game.” Belcher was one of three Patriots in double figures as Lincoln advanced to tonight's championship game with Casey County.
