Heading into halftime of Friday night's game against Tates Creek, West Jessamine held a slim 9-7 lead, but the Commodores' second-half surge put the Colts away 28-9. Tates Creek's first touchdown of the night came on their opening possession which drained more than five minutes off an already dwindling clock. With 1:38 remaining in the first period, running back Dennis Oxendine broke a 16-yard touchdown run to put the Commodores on the board 7-0 following an extra point. West was able to respond with a lengthly drive of its own - nearly 10 minutes in fact.

George Rogers Clark girls basketball coach Scott True liked the way his team performed at Tates Creek Monday night, but the Lady Cardinals fell on the short end of the score in a 45-36 loss to the Lady Commodores. The setback was the second in a row for Clark, which suffered a 49-45 overtime defeat at Campbell County last weekend in Alexandria. “Overall, I felt like we played harder and we competed much better than we did (last) Saturday,” True said. “We got down early, but we really battled and did some good things.” True said his team's biggest downfall was an inability to hit shots.

Whatever Brian Deem had to say to his players Saturday afternoon must have gotten their attention. The Boyle County softball team had won the first of its two games, but the Boyle coach said the 10th-ranked Rebels didn't look very good doing it. Deem told them so between games, and they responded with one of their most lopsided wins of the season, a 14-0 rout of Mercer County in the final game of a three-team round robin at Rebel Stadium. Boyle had five scoring innings in the six-inning game and enjoyed its second-largest margin of victory this spring.

West Jessamine's tennis coaches knew entering the season they had teams needing to rise to the occasion, but what they didn't know was it needed to be done without their top singles acts. Thus far in the 2013 season, only head coach Josh Yost's boys' team has had its No. 1 seed (senior Andrew Monell) on the court. Yost said in his absence players such as senior Grant Wells, junior Joel Mansur and sophomore Nick Kulaga have relished the opportunity against formidable opponents.
