Don't walk into Bluegrass Community Bank with preconceived notions. President and CEO Doug Ayers said his bank is different, and it's cutting-edge technology and services, all with a hometown focus, makes it stand out. "The first thing people tend to notice, there are no teller lines," Ayers said. Instead, Bluegrass Community is embracing a new approach to banking. One way it's doing that is with pods - rounded teller stations that allow for easy dialogue flow and customer interaction.

Kentucky Bank teller Lisa Colley braces for a pie in the face as her reward for collecting the most donations for the Clark County Relay for Life. Lissie Wyatt, left, prepares to administer the whipped cream and chocolate syrup concoction behind the office on Bypass Road. Colley took the pie directly in the face after raising approximately $140 for the event. Bank customers voted on which employee they wanted to see be hit with a pie in the face through donations. The employees raised $208 for the American Cancer Society fundraiser through their efforts.

Kayla Carrier and Sarah Hale have joined First Southern National Bank. Carrier serves as a teller at the Hustonville and Stanford main office locations, while Hale serves as a teller at the bank's branch on North U.S. Highway 27 in Stanford. Carrier is currently attending Somerset Community College, attends Green River Pentecostal Church and lives in McKinney. Hale formerly served as a Command Post Apprentice in the United States Air Force. She currently lives in Lancaster with her daughter, Emilee, and attends Lancaster Baptist Church.

Crime of the Week Authorities are looking for a suspect for the Aug. 8 robbery of Chase Bank on North Broadway in Lexington. Crime Stoppers of the Bluegrass is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, identified from bank surveillance video as a white male who was wearing a white button-down shirt and a baseball hat with "Pro Loc" written on the front in yellow. The man entered the bank branch at 12:05 p.m. Aug. 8 and told the teller to give him the money.

Customers at the downtown National City Bank were a little surprised Friday to discover that their tellers had shrunk. The little people behind the counters were third-graders at Woodlawn Elementary School. Barbara Matheny, a teacher at the school, came up with the idea for her students' field trip and worked with parent Danae Boyd, who is a district sales executive for National City. "The whole idea is to show how to use math in everyday situations," Matheny says, noting that she wanted to expose the children to more than just a tour.

Jones promoted at Farmers National Bank Traci Jones has been promoted to vice president and head of teller operations at Farmers National Bank. Jones joined the bank as teller/customer service representative in 1993 after 10 years of experience in the banking industry. In 1996, she was named head teller of the Harrodsburg branch. In 1997, she was promoted to assistant vice president and manager of the Walnut Street branch and in 1988 was named full-time training manager of the bank's teller staff.

NICHOLASVILLE - Nicholasville Police Department credited the awareness of residents of the Shannon Parkway neighborhood for the quick arrest of a bank robbery suspect Wednesday afternoon. About noon, Joseph D. Morris, of 4245 Hustonville Road, Junction City, allegedly walked into the Kentucky Bank branch on Shannon Parkway, indicated to the female teller that he had a weapon and demanded money. "He implied that he had a weapon, and he kept reaching into his pocket," Maj. John Branscum said.

Holman Joins First Southern Lisa Holman recently joined First Southern National Bank as a customer service representative and teller in the bank's Nicholasville office. Holman comes to First Southern with more than 15 years banking experience, including several years serving as a head teller. She has also earned the designation of certified teller from the Kentucky Bankers Association. "We are thrilled to have Lisa on our team," said Suzanne Short, branch manager, First Southern National Bank.
