JUNCTION CITY — It was an August afternoon in Arkansas when Elizabeth Guillen was told there was a donor heart ready for her son.   In the past, she hadn’t wanted to believe her little Jaydon would need an all-out transplant. Among all the doctor’s visits, surgeries and medicines to handle her 3-year-old’s heart problem — he was born with a single ventricle — she had been told by a cardiologist that a transplant might be a solution of sorts.

Around the four- to six-month mark, your child can start to eat some solid foods, including finger foods. The transition to solid foods starts with foods like cereals and then progresses to foods like veggies and meat. Some parents have some questions about when their child is allowed to begin eating real solid foods like cookies and crackers, and whether their child needs teeth to start eating these things. The answer is no because even if your six- to seven-month-old has teeth, he or she will not begin chewing until older.

Keeping a bookcase in your child's room is a great way to encourage your child to read books, and it develops a love for collecting favorite books because it gives her a place to exhibit her collection. The first step is to decide where the bookcase will be placed. You want it to be in an area to allow for easy access to the books, and it should be visible from all parts of the bedroom. You want room in front of the books so your child can sit or stand while choosing which book to read.
