LIBERTY - Haylee Milroy is the picture of health. The 3-year-old is happy, always on the move, and keeps her mother busy. Although small for her age - she weighs just 24 pounds now - nothing appeared abnormal. She has cousins that are small, too, her mother said. So when Haylee got sick about a year ago, her parents, Candice and Jessie Milroy, were not too alarmed; they thought she just had a bug, but treatment did not improve her condition. After a series of tests in three hospitals, Haylee finally was diagnosed with Franconi anemia, an inherited blood disorder that leads to bone marrow failure.

On Thursday, Boyle County Sheriff's Deputy Casey McCoy responded to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville on reports of the two children being neglected. McCoy was informed that earlier that day Vince Peyton, 47, and Joyce Wofford, 32, both of Junction City, had walked to Peckerwoods Grocery with a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old.  Peyton and Wofford were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, and the children were not dressed properly for the cold weather, according to police.  Customers and the store owner told police the baby had several injuries, was coughing and wheezing, appeared underfed and had an overflowing diaper.

Dear Editor, Since moving back to Danville, after living in Lexington for 10 years, I have an appreciation for many things. I enjoy the slower pace. I appreciate a close-knit community with deep roots where I can raise my child. Most importantly, I am glad I live in a community that, while small, tends to be progressive. We have great schools, a great hospital, a fantastic library and (in general) great services. That being said, I do feel there is one area that is lacking that could make a tremendous difference in our community - curbside recycling.
