The Joy-XYZ Group traveled to Versailles Tuesday for lunch at the Railroad Restaurant in the old depot. As the group enjoyed the spacious depot restaurant and the special, delicious and rare foods such as Derby pie and peanut butter pie, they learned that regular train service began in September of 1885 at this train stop. Before the group ate, Ethel Vance gave the blessing. Lunch was served to Vernon Shearer, Dorothy Foster, Louise Hll, Vance, Mary Rowe, Boo Baldwin, group coordinator, Bernice Roberts, and Judy Masters.

Brenda Sue Tucker Robinson Houp, 61, of Nicholasville, daughter of Aliene Raider Tucker of Versailles and the late Henry Tucker, died Thursday March 6 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born in Woodford County Sept. 3, 1946, she was a former cashier supervisor at Kroger in Versailles. Besides her mother she is survived by one son, Brad Houp Jr., two daughters, Kimberly Alaine Robinson and Heather Marie Houp all of Nicholasville, six sisters, Henrietta and husband Bobby Carpenter of Versailles, Rita and husband Phillip Reed of Versailles, Glenda Tucker of Lexington, Kay Tucker of Versailles, Cheryl and husband Eddie Thompson of Versailles and Susan Tucker of Versailles, one brother, Allan and wife Karen Tucker of Lawrenceburg.

DEVON LEE AND DERRICK RYAN CLEM Billy and Amanda Clem of Versailles announce the birth of their twin sons, Devon Lee and Derrick Ryan Clem. They were born July 23 at Central Baptist Hospital. Ronald Howard Rousey, 61, of Versailles, died Wednesday, Oct. 29 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. A native of Casey County, he was born Dec. 2, 1946 to Howard and Helen Sharp Rousey of Danville (formerly of Casey County). He was a Baptist and a former partner of R & R Drywall and Acoustics, Inc. in Lexington. Essie Starnes Jewell, 82, widow of William Gerald Jewell, died Thursday Sept. 24, 2009. Essie was born June 1, 1928, in Lincoln County to the late Thomas and Maude Martin Starnes. Survivors are four children, Rita Jewell of Versailles, Gerald Jewell of Wilmore, Teresa and husband Terry Lowry of Harrodsburg and Jeff and wife Cindy Jewell of Versailles, three grandchildren, Stevie Jewell and Tara Lowry of Harrodsburg and Josh Jewell of Versailles, two great-grandchildren, Lorn and William Jewell of Versailles, a sister, Roberta and husband Danny Anderson of Nicholasville, a stepbrother, Eugene Powers of Lancaster, a special niece, Rena Cromer of Nicholasville and other family members.

Hazel Jean Shields Centers, 75, died Wednesday, April 10. She was born in Versailles to Raymond and Crystal D. Wise Shields Sr. Hazel and Venard celebrated 58 years of marriage together. Their lives touched many people through their caring nature and a front door that was always welcoming to friends and family. She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Patti Centers, and Gregg Davis and wife Tammie Centers, both of Nicholasville; brothers John Wayne and wife Brenda Shields, Ray and wife Georgia Shields, and Bob and wife Susie Shields; and grandchildren Jordan Davis Centers and Noah Poor.

Beulah Bell Adams, 89, of Winchester, widow of Forrest C. Adams, passed away Tuesday at the Mayfair Manor in Lexington. A native of Estill County, Ky., she was born April 12, 1923, to the late Harley and Bertha Tipton Jones. She is survived by one son, Dr. Wayne (Darnell) Adams of Meridian, Miss., two daughters, Marjorie Hackworth of Clark County and Betty Perkins of Winchester; one brother, C.E. Jones of Versailles; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of services at the funeral home.

Winifred Ann Carpenter, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 1, in Lexington.  Born Aug. 11, 1925, Winifred was a daughter of the late Denver and Virginia Carter. She was a retired assembly line worker for Certified Brake and a member of South Fork Baptist Church. Eugene Noel, 81, of Winchester, widower of Patricia A. Noel, passed away Friday at the Mayfair Manor in Lexington. A native of Midway, he was born Jan. 20, 1931, to the late Paul and Willa Childers Noel. He was a United States Air Force veteran during the Korean War. He retired after 28 years of service from IBM, and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Marvin Lee Lovins Sr., 73, of Crab Orchard, passed away Friday, July 27. Born Sept. 16, 1938, in Somerset, Marvin was a  son of the late Louis Herbert and Mary Frances Tull Lovins.  He was a self-employed body shop worker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Thomas and Henry Roger Lovins. Survivors include three sons, Randy Dale, Jeffery Allen  and Marvin Lee Lovins, Jr. all of Versailles; one daughter, Anita Sue Bast of Versailles; three brothers, Eddie B. Lovins, Sr. of Somerset, Ralph Dennis Lovins of Murphy, N.C. and Gary Norman Lovins of Nashville, Ind.; one sister, Maudie Virginia Medaris of Columbus, Ind.; a very special friend, Lela McWhorter of Crab Orchard; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
