The Salvation Army is looking for a few good bell-ringing volunteers. In all of Kentucky, this is the only area that uses an all-volunteer crew to ring bells by the infamous red kettles, according to Salvation Army Capt. Zach Bell. This year to keep up the all-volunteer staff, Bell said the agency needs some help from the community. "The Salvation Army is in real need of volunteers to ring bells this year. " Money from the kettles will be used to help 1,000 families in the five-county area, more than ever before.

Dear Editor, I would like to know why, when wrecks occur, that the wrecker drivers don't have to clean up the broken glass and dispose of it. I saw a wreck recently south of Wal-Mart and the turn lane has a lot of glass still in it causing people to run over it and damage their tires. I think if they want to haul off the wrecks, they should do the cleanup, also. Darrell KendallHustonville

We would also like to thank Burger King for providing each child with a free meal. Once again, thank-you to everyone for their continued support. HARRODSBURG - The tents outside the Wal-Mart here were not on special. Gamers and a merry band of entrepreneurs were camped outside the store waiting for a chance to buy a new PlayStation 3. Sony's first generation of high definition gaming, the PS3, has sent similar droves of people to the streets to wait across the country. Many were satisfied at midnight when stores that are open 24 hours released the game systems, but in Harrodsburg they had to wait until 7:01 a.m. today when the store opened.

Danville resident James Scott found an unwanted surprise when he opened his box of Michelina's Pizza Snacks on Wednesday afternoon at lunch time. Scott found what appeared to be a piece of dirty plastic, possibly from machinery in a manufacturing plant, amongst his freshly-microwaved pizza rolls. He was about to take a bite of one of his pizza rolls when a co-worker at Charleston Healthcare noticed the foreign object and got Scott's attention. The pizza rolls are a common purchase for Scott.

Dear Editor: In response to comments in the Feb. 4 paper on inmates shopping at Wal-Mart, I have one main question. Does the writer fear for the inmates or himself? The system should take offense at his criticism of the guard. He must not understand the personal search that the inmates go through before and after anything and everything they get to do out of the normal daily routine. He is also ignorant to the fact that these men are on "outside detail" and have the ability to actually walk off if they are not determined to do their time.
