Chansler Gilbert led a balanced Lincoln scoring attack with 11 points last Tuesday as the Lady Patriots downed visiting Wayne County 58-44.  Lincoln (3-0) trailed 18-13 after the first but used a 14-5 second-quarter scoring edge to overtake Wayne 27-23 at the half.  The Lady Patriots led the rest of the way, posting a 40-30 lead after three periods of play then closing with an 18-14 scoring edge.  Rachel Spangler added 10 points in the Lady Pat win, Emily Fox and Caitlin Hall each scored seven points, Sydney Harris and Kourtney Belcher had six points apiece, Ciara Saylor had five points and Kelsi Honaker, Spencer Sims and Tiandra Hocker rounded out the scoring with two points each.  Wayne (2-2)

BJ Hoover scored a game-high 22 points for Lincoln against Wayne County last Tuesday, but it wouldn't be enough as the visiting Cardinals cruised 78-62 over the Patriots. Timmy Taylor also hit double figures for Lincoln, however, Wayne topped Lincoln's scoring effort by placing four players in double digits. Wayne (3-1) was led by Peyton Woods with 20 points. Corey Stearns added 16 points, Jason Perkins finished with 13 points and Trey Blevins had 11. The Cardinals jumped on their hosts 18-13 in the first quarter and spent the rest of the game building on their lead.

Wayne County led by two touchdowns at the half, then scored late to hold off Casey County for a 21-12 win on Friday at Monticello. With the Rebels down 14-0, Dillon Coffey picked up a blocked punt and ran in from 10 yards out to make it 14-6 and snap the team's six-quarter scoreless drought. The loss dropped Casey to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in Class AAA, District 5. In the fourth quarter, Cody Denson caused a fumble, which the Rebels recovered. Coffey later scored on an 18-yard run with 7:17 to play to cut the score to 14-12.

East Jessamine outscored Wayne County 24-5 during the third quarter of Thursday's game to surge past the Cardinals (17-16) and win 78-61 in the quarterfinals of the 12th Region tournament in Pulaski County. Wayne, who lost to East 110-81 during the regular season, gave the Jaguars (28-4) everything they could handle during the first half as both teams played to a 27-27 tie at the break. “We anticipated the 1-2-2 (zone) matchup that they were going to run,” East coach Chris O'Bryan said.

East Jessamine's football season came to a close Friday night with a 31-14 loss to Wayne County at home. Jaguar seniors did their best to extend the season on senior night - a win would have put the 2-8 Jags in the playoffs. Seniors Hayden Tatman and Blake Hinkle accounted for both East Jessamine scores. Tatman's touchdown came on East's first drive of the night. The drive covered 76 yards after the defense held on a fourth-and-21 situation. A steady run attack along with a 23-yard pass moved the ball down field for the Jags.

Frankfort 71, Danville 62 - At Frankfort, Laken Grey had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Cameron McPherson added 19 for the Admirals (2-1)

The Mercer County girls moved to 6-0 on the season Saturday with a 9-0 road win at Wayne County. BEREA - Ethan Smith and Spencer Anderson are the last area boys players standing today after the Garrard County duo advanced to the 12th Region Tournament doubles championship. The two Golden Lions, seeded second, dropped their first set to Casey County's No. 3 seed of Tayler Leigh and Skyler Wright, but rebounded with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 semifinal victory Saturday at Berea College. “We were just trying to focus on the matches we had today and we didn't look ahead to the championship matches, and now we have time to do that,” Anderson said.

Trent Rogers and Justin Underwood won at No. 6 doubles to give the Casey County boys a 5-4 victory over Wayne County on Friday at Liberty. Rogers and Underwood also had two of Casey's four singles wins. Marion County vs. Danville - At Danville, Matthew Calvert factored in two of Danville's three match wins in a loss to Marion, winning at No. 6 singles and teaming with Konnor Hill for a win at No. 3 doubles. Match scores were not reported. Girls Casey County 9, Wayne County 0 - At Liberty, Casey players lost only five of 67 games in a win over Wayne.

The Danville wrestling team went 3-1 Saturday at the Wayne County Duals. Three wresters were 3-1 with three pins, Daniel Lannum (132), Zach Phillips (113) and Carson Soulter (138), while Shamus Sallee (182) and Elliott Porter (285) each went 2-1 with two pins. The Admirals opened with a 43-42 win over Scott County. The match was tied at 42-all, but Danville got the win since the Ads had four pins to Scott's one. Danville then beat Whitley County 42-29 and McCreary Central 36-34 before falling to Wayne 79-0 in its final match.

Casey County gave up two touchdowns in 17 seconds early in the game Friday and never threatened Wayne County in a 48-7 defeat at Monticello. Wayne (7-1, 2-1 Class AAA, District 4) scored its first touchdown 2 minutes, 34 seconds into the game, then tacked on another one moments later following the first of four turnovers by Casey (2-6, 1-2) to take a 13-0 lead with 9:09 left in the first quarter. Six different players scored touchdowns for the Cardinals, who had 200 rushing yards and 179 passing yards and outgained the Rebels better than 3 to 1. Wayne led 27-0 at halftime and scored three times more in the third quarter before Rance Carman scored Casey's only touchdown on a 7-yard run with 6:55 remaining in the game.

LIBERTY - It's another top-10 team for Casey County to go against in No. 7 Wayne County, which has lost only to No. 3 Bell County, at Monticello Friday. “Wayne County is very good up front and has nice athletes in several positions on the field,”¿Casey coach Sam Marple said. “They can control a game with their ground game and are able to score points in a hurry if they need to in open space. On defense, they tackle very well and have good team speed.” Casey (2-5, 1-1 Class AAA, District 4)
