STANFORD - The Casey County girls took the long way to where they thought they would be all along. The Rebels thought they would have a chance to play for the regional championship, and they'll get that chance after rallying to beat Wayne County 54-46 in a girls 12th Region Tournament semifinal Saturday night at Lincoln County. And their oponent today will be Lincoln County, the team that coach Randy Salyers told them last summer would be waiting for them. “We played Lincoln County in a summer game, and after that summer game I told the kids, 'Listen, girls, right there's the team we're going to be playing in the finals of the region,'” Salyers said.

Garrard County couldn't stop Wayne County running back D.J. Hall. That led to a district road loss Friday as Garrard fell 33-12 at Wayne. "It was a whole lot of Hall and not very much tackling and blocking by Garrard," said Garrard coach Mark Scenters. "They pretty much committed everything to stopping our run. We were without (running back) Jamarious Merritt again - he tried a few plays but was ineffective - and just had a hard time running the ball up the middle and they took our sweeps away.

STANFORD - By Don Story's own admission, Lincoln County's 38-25 win Tuesday over visiting Wayne County was not a thing of beauty. "But we played well enough to win," the Lincoln coach said. "It's just one of those games you fight through and grind it out and hopefully you get the win. It wasn't the prettiest thing in the world, but we did make some plays. " Kendra Brown blocked six shots to go with her nine rebounds and eight points and Jessica Upchurch scored all 11 of her points in the second half as the Patriots improved to 3-1. Lincoln held Wayne to 41 percent shooting (17- for-41)

The East Jessamine football team took its third loss in a row and fifth of the season on Friday night as the Jaguars came up short against Wayne County 27-16. Despite having their worst rushing performance of the year (56 total yards), the Jaguars (5-5) were down by five and had the ball with 5:31 remaining. “We didn't make enough plays to win, unfortunately,” East Jessamine coach Mike Bowlin said. “I want it for them so bad and the kids want it so bad. They're practicing hard, and I¿thought they played hard; we just for some reason can't find the end zone enough and we can't make enough stops.” Trailing 21-16 following an 85-yard touchdown pass from Cody Garrett to James Russell, the East defense forced a three-and-out and the offense took over on the 9-yard line after a punt.

LANCASTER - In an anticipated move, the Wayne County parent who ran onto the field last month during a football game pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Monday in Garrard District Court. Kirby Thompson, 50, of Monticello, was fined $250 plus court costs. Thompson pleaded guilty after learning no assault charge would be filed for allegedly smacking a Garrard County player. During the Friday night game on Oct. 19, Thompson reportedly was upset after a Wayne County player was roughly hit during a tackle, and ran onto the field, according to Deputy Sheriff Brandon Conley's report.

STANFORD - All eight boys coaches agreed Sunday that any team in the 12th Region Tournament could emerge as champion and reach the Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena. However, veteran Wayne County mentor Rodney Woods still believes the winner will come from the 45th District. "I've said it from day one that Lincoln County or Boyle County have the best shot to win the tournament, and I still believe that," Woods said. "Boyle has managed to beat them twice, but the tournament is at Lincoln and everyone knows how hard they are to beat here.
