Wins in four of five singles matches allowed the Boyle County boys to defeat Wayne County 4-3 Monday at Danville. David Theaker pulled out an 8-6 win over Wayne's Cody Clark at No. 1 singles. Brooke Ponder and Brittany Price teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles Tuesday to help Casey County earn a 5-4 win over Wayne County at Monticello. The visiting Rebels dropped the first two sinlges matches before Ponder, Price, Danielle Pemberton and Sierra Skipper all won their matches. Ponder and Price then beat Wayne's Whitney Neal and Brittany Chaplin to clinch the match for Casey. Boys Casey County 8, Wayne County 1 - At Monticello, the Rebels took five of six singles matches to earn a road win over Wayne.

The Casey County girls won three of five singles matches Monday as the Rebels pulled out a 4-3 win over visiting Wayne County. Brittany Price and Danielle Pemberton each had singles wins, then teamed for a win at No. 2 doubles for Casey. Mercer County 5, Western Hills 0 - At Frankfort, Mercer (4-0) did not drop a set and posted a 5-0 road win at Western Hills. Lee Lee Baxter posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and the duo of Ellen Van Gilder and Sagan Shannon won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles to lead Mercer.

The Danville girls won four of six singles matches and downed Wayne County 6-3 Friday. Aubrey Mojesky and Grisel Vilchez had wins at singles, then teamed for a win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the victory for the Admirals. Boys Danville 7, Wayne County 2 - At Danville, Blake Hobson and Ethan Hobson won at singles, then teamed for a doubles win to lead the Admirals over Wayne County. Casey County 3, Taylor County 2 - At Campbellsville, Chad Jeffries, Kyle Jeffries and Brad Jeffries all had straight-set singles wins to lead the Rebels to the road win over Taylor County.

The Casey County boys edged Wayne County 5-4 on Friday at Monticello after Ryan Martin and Trent Rogers won the No. 3 doubles match in a tiebreaker. Martin and Rogers won their tiebreaker 7-6 to give Casey wins in two of the three doubles matches. Girls Casey County 7, Wayne County 0 - At Monticello, Tylyn Leigh won 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Casey players lost only two other games in the remaining six matches. STEARNS - Danville opened its season with losses to McCreary Central and Wayne County in dual matches Tuesday at McCreary County Middle School. The Admirals lost 57-17 to Wayne and 36-33 to McCreary. Phillip Mathis won both of his matches for Danville in the 160-pound class, pinning McCreary's Jason Duncan in 3:00 and scoring a technical fall over Levi Elier of Wayne. Eighth-grader Evan Hester won his first varsity match, beating McCreary's Randall Vanover 20-19. "I saw a lot of heart, but I see lot of things need to work on, and one thing's conditioning," Danville coach Jeff Selby said.

By Nancy Leedy Lincoln County played out its final boy/girl tennis doubleheader of the season Friday, playing host to Wayne County. While unfamiliar with the LCHS courts, the visiting Cardinals and Lady Cardinals had little trouble making themselves feel at home, sweeping their hosts 7-2, 9-0. Lincoln's No. 1 and No. 2 singles players Colin Hart and Lucas McCoy got the Patriots off to a winning start by taking the boys' first two matches....

The defending 12th Region champion Boyle County girls lost their season-opening match to Russell County on Monday. Meanwhile, two Danville teams that finished second in the region last year posted opening-day victories over Wayne County. Girls Russell County 6, Boyle County 3 - At Danville, Brittany Maynard and Jenni Gramstad won singles matches, and Maynard and Kelsey Stillwell had the only doubles win. Trent Rogers and Justin Underwood won at No. 6 doubles to give the Casey County boys a 5-4 victory over Wayne County on Friday at Liberty. Rogers and Underwood also had two of Casey's four singles wins. Marion County vs. Danville - At Danville, Matthew Calvert factored in two of Danville's three match wins in a loss to Marion, winning at No. 6 singles and teaming with Konnor Hill for a win at No. 3 doubles. Match scores were not reported. Girls Casey County 9, Wayne County 0 - At Liberty, Casey players lost only five of 67 games in a win over Wayne.

Boyle County fell to .500 after dropping a doubleheader to Woodford County on Friday, losing 6-0 and 10-3 at Rebel Field. The Rebels were held to two hits in the first game by Woodford pitchers Logan Parrett and Zack Hacker. They got singles from Jacob Pike in the third inning and Casey Whittle in the fifth, while Parrett struck out 13 batters and walked only two in six innings. Losing pitcher Jarrett Payne allowed three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings, and Ryan Pettit allowed the same run and hit totals in 2 2/3 innings.

Casey County came up just short of erasing a three-touchown deficit before Wayne County pulled away for a 47-21 victory Friday night at Liberty. The host Rebels (3-5, 1-2 Class AAA, District 4) had trimmed Wayne's 20-0 lead to 20-14 early in the third quarter and were driving with a chance to tie or take the lead when their offense stalled and they were forced to punt with 3 minutes, 23 seconds left in the period. They never got another chance, as the Cardinals (6-2, 1-2) exploded for four unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.

The Mercer County girls tennis team walked away with the title Saturday at the Model Invitational in Richmond. The tournament was a round-robin format and the Titans tied with Model for first place, but won the tie-breaker based on winning more games. In the match against Model, Mercer had wins from the duos of Lauren Yates and LeeLee Baxter and Alli Grant and Caitlin Baer to tie Model 2-2. Against Madison Central, Savanna Barnett and Erin Pigman won in singles, and Baxter and Lauren Yates and Grant and bear had doubles wins.

Caitlin Baer had a singles win for Mercer (5-1), and the No. 2 duo of Ellen Van Gilder and Sagan Shannon also won. Danville 5, McCreary Central 0 - At Danville, Rachel Ricker, Katie Ward and Anne Wilson combined to lose just one game in singles play as Danville swept McCreary.
