The bottom of the order came through for the Garrard County girls Monday, as the Golden Lions got a No. 6 singles win from Charlotte Hegel and a No. 3 doubles win from Hegel and Whitney Napier to beat visiting Boyle County 5-4. The Mercer County girls lost their first match of the season Thursday as visiting Wayne County won three of five singles matches in a 4-3 victory. Caitlin Baer had a singles win for Mercer (5-1), and the No. 2 duo of Ellen Van Gilder and Sagan Shannon also won. Danville 5, McCreary Central 0 - At Danville, Rachel Ricker, Katie Ward and Anne Wilson combined to lose just one game in singles play as Danville swept McCreary. Casey County 9, Pulaski County 0 - At Somerset, Allison Overstreet, Kim True, Brooke Ponder and Brittany Price all won twice to lead Casey to a road win. Boys Mercer County 7, Wayne County 2 - At Harrodsburg, the Titans (5-1)

STEARNS - David Harlan went 2-0 with a pin and technical fall Thursday to lead a scaled-down Danville wrestling team in a round-robin dual at McCreary Central. Harlan pinned Tres Stallard of Letcher County Central and beat Kevin Wisham of McCreary 20-5 at 135 pounds. Nick Nelson (152) pinned Randy Vanover of McCreary with five seconds left in the match for his first win of the season. "We had a few out. Our heavyweight, Brooks Evans, went to Florida to see his family, and we had a couple of others gone for the holiday," Danville coach Jeff Selby said.

Evan Hester took second and Rhodes Bell placed fourth Saturday for the host Admirals at the Danville Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Hester finished the day 4-1 with two pins. Wrestling as a heavyweight, Hester pinned Tyler Beckett of Eastern in 2 minutes, 30 seconds. He also pinned Matt Livingston of Louisville Eastern in 3 minutes, 12 seconds at 215 pounds. In the finals at 215, Hester was pinned by McCreary Central's Terran Lone in 3:45. Bell, wrestling at 145 pounds, was pinned by Central Hardin's Eric Jaggers in 5 minutes, 15 seconds in the third-place match.

Boyle County fell to .500 after dropping a doubleheader to Woodford County on Friday, losing 6-0 and 10-3 at Rebel Field. The Rebels were held to two hits in the first game by Woodford pitchers Logan Parrett and Zack Hacker. They got singles from Jacob Pike in the third inning and Casey Whittle in the fifth, while Parrett struck out 13 batters and walked only two in six innings. Losing pitcher Jarrett Payne allowed three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings, and Ryan Pettit allowed the same run and hit totals in 2 2/3 innings.

The Mercer County girls tennis team walked away with the title Saturday at the Model Invitational in Richmond. The tournament was a round-robin format and the Titans tied with Model for first place, but won the tie-breaker based on winning more games. In the match against Model, Mercer had wins from the duos of Lauren Yates and LeeLee Baxter and Alli Grant and Caitlin Baer to tie Model 2-2. Against Madison Central, Savanna Barnett and Erin Pigman won in singles, and Baxter and Lauren Yates and Grant and bear had doubles wins.

Casey County came up just short of erasing a three-touchown deficit before Wayne County pulled away for a 47-21 victory Friday night at Liberty. The host Rebels (3-5, 1-2 Class AAA, District 4) had trimmed Wayne's 20-0 lead to 20-14 early in the third quarter and were driving with a chance to tie or take the lead when their offense stalled and they were forced to punt with 3 minutes, 23 seconds left in the period. They never got another chance, as the Cardinals (6-2, 1-2) exploded for four unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.

The Casey County girls kept their perfect record intact with a 6-3 victory over Wayne County on Friday at Liberty. Casey (9-0) clinched the win by taking five of the six singles matches. Tylyn Leigh pulled out an 8-4 victory over Nicole Davis at No. 2 singles, while Allie Tinsley, Haley Owens, Sarah Beard and Sara Coffman won easily at Nos. 3-6. Ashley McQueary and Taylor Pemberton had the Rebels’ only doubles win. Boys Casey County 7, Wayne County 2 — At Liberty, Casey won several close matches to complete a singles sweep in its win over Wayne.
