Ethan Hobson of the Danville boys defeated Ethan Smith of Lincoln County 8-1 Monday to kick off a 6-0 victory for the Admirals. Jake Winkler and Rollins Grubbs won the No. 1 doubles match for Danville by the same score. Garrard County 7, Somerset 2 — At Lancaster, Jonah Johnson rallied from triple match point to win the No. 1 singles match and help Garrard improved to 4-0. Johnson trailed Somerset’s David Weigel 7-3, and was down 40-0 in the deciding game before rallying to win 9-8. He won the tiebreaker 7-5. Casey County 8, McCreary Central 1 — At Liberty, Casey swept the six singles matches to beat McCreary, getting 8-5 wins from Clay Cannon (No. 3)

The Mercer County girls swept three doubles matches to defeat Danville 3-2 on Tuesday at Danville. Mercer lost both singles matches in the five-match competition but turned things around in doubles play to improve to 14-0. Lee Lee Baxter and Lauren Yates won the No. 1 doubles match, beating Danville's Maddalena Polinedrio and McKay Nelson 10-4 in a tiebreaker after the teams split two sets. Erin Pigman and Christy Ingram also won a tiebreaker at No. 3. Casey County 5, Wayne County 4 - At Monticello, Danielle Pemberton and Sierra Skipper broke a 4-all tie with their 7-5 win over Wayne's Jennifer Worley and Nicole Davis at No. 2 singles.

The Casey County girls won four close matches Monday to secure a 7-2 victory over Danville at Liberty. Casey's Kim True defeated Madelena Polinderio of Danville at No. 3 singles in the closest match of the day, winning a tiebreaker 9-7. Cassie Bolin won by only two games at No. 5 singles, as did the doubles teams of Allison Overstreet and Livia Emrich (No. 2) and Bolin and Brittany Price (No. 3). Feb. 28, 1959 The First Settlers Homemakers Club met Wednesday at the Brown-Proctor Hotel. Mrs. John Reed, reading chairman, gave a review of the book "Nelia" by Willie Snow Ethridge. The Missionary Society of the First Church of God met Monday evening at the church on East Hickman Street. Mrs. W.C. Van Pelt and Mrs. Arthur Campbell were hostesses. The Clark County Board of Education, at its regular board meeting Friday night, approved an order calling for an election Tuesday, April 7, to increase the county school tax rate 50 cents for a building program.

Lincoln County was rolling in ribbons at their first home meet of the season, dominating the small meet. Just three schools ? Lincoln, Spencer County and Danville Christian Academy ? participated in the impromptu meet held at LCHS. Lincoln runners won five of the six races competed and all who raced for the Lady Patriots and Patriots, finished no lower than 13th. Emily Frith was the first runner across in the girls varsity 5K, winning in 21:24. Lincoln's Jesslyn Long and Emily Baker came across together, running seventh and eighth, respectively.

Lincoln County cross country runners had to battle more than a tough field of competitors at Saturday's Dunbar Bulldog Invitational with heat and hilly terrain taking its toll. The 5K varsity and reserve varsity course at Woodford Park in Versailles has its challenges with steep inclines a bane of the race. Add in glaring heat and humidity and runners start to fall out. Lincoln had two of its own runners to fall victim to the conditions with Kwan Shim and Aaron Roemisch both listed as DNF (did not finish)

Burgin scored 11 runs in the top of the 12th inning Saturday and beat host Woodford County 19-8 in Woodford's Chandler Classic. Ian Powell's three-run home run sparked the 11th inning rally after Austin Shewmaker doubled and Trenton Claunch singled. Powell had four hits on the day. Claunch, Devan Lay and Shewmaker had three hits each, and Ricky Ryan and Spencer Gray had two hits each. Ryan had a two-run home run in the third to put Burgin ahead 8-2. Woodford scored for runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game.

Evan Hester is just your typical Danville wrestler. He is young, like nearly all of his teammates. He is relatively inexperienced, even though he is in his fourth year in the sport. And he is showing signs that he could have a promising future, just as his team is. Hester has collected a handful of fifth-place finishes in invitational meets so far this season, which isn't bad given that he is only a freshman. "It's an acceptable year," he said. He went 1-1 in Danville's double-dual competition Wednesday.

Kaitlin Snapp of Danville won her second consecutive Central Kentucky Conference championship Tuesday in Stanford, decimating the field to win the girls race by more than a minute and a half. Snapp won the 3.1-mile course at Lincoln County in 20 minutes, 26 seconds, while runner-up Amy Etherington of Woodford County finished in 21:49. "She won pretty easy," Danville coach Ed McKinney said. "This is her second one in a row in the CKC ... and it's pretty neat for her to win. " Boyle County's Sam Morgan was second in the boys race, finishing 12 seconds behind leader Cullen Kuntz of Woodford with a time of 17:16 and just ahead of three more Woodford runners who filled out the top five.

Danville advanced to the All "A" Classic 12th Region title game for the fifth consecutive year Monday with a 9-2 win over visiting Burgin. Danville plays 22nd-ranked Somerset at 7 p.m. today for a trip to the All "A" state tournament May 3-4 in Lexington. Will Ray scattered five hits over seven innings to get the win for Danville (7-2), striking out six and not walking a batter. Matt Yates and Michael Evans each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Danville offense, which pounded out 14 hits.
