In a contest that featured a little bit of everything, the George Rogers Clark High School baseball team suffered a 9-8 setback to Woodford County Monday at Cardinal Field. The Cardinals (16-8) never led and trailed 9-4 going into the last inning, but crossed the plate four times in their last at-bat to make things interesting down the stretch. "It was a fun game, it really was," Clark coach Larry Allison said. "They got some runs late, but our kids didn't quit, and that is what's important.

STANFORD ? The Lincoln County Patriots never knew what hit them. With a 17-point lead in the middle of the third quarter Friday night, the Patriots appeared to be firmly in control of their game with Washington County. Less than an hour later, however, their coach said they were in danger of losing control of the season after Washington executed a remarkable turnaround to hand Lincoln a crushing 48-24 defeat. Visiting Washington scored 41 unanswered points in the final 17 minutes, 12 seconds to win its first game of the season and leave Lincoln reeling.

Teams that are able to put together long winning streaks usually have to find all sorts of ways to win, including the hard way. That's the route Boyle County took to defeat Woodford County in its home finale on Tuesday night. The Rebels were one swing away from beating Woodford by 10 runs in the fifth inning, but they had to fight off a late-inning rally to escape with a 9-8 victory and extend their winning streak to 16 games. "We faced some adversity, but we just kept battling and got a win," said infielder Jacob Enlow, who helped Boyle build its lead with his first career grand slam.
