When the nation turns its focus to the vice-presidential debate Thursday, Centre College will be ready to welcome thousands of people to its campus and millions of people through its virtual “front doors.” With about 1,350 enrolled undergraduate students, Centre College is one of the smallest colleges to ever host a national debate. In the run-up to and on the day of the debate, the college expects to receive a huge amount of attention and resulting higher online traffic. To prepare for this, Centre is using a service through AT&T called Synaptic Compute to host its website.

Guthrie's staff to visit Danville Congressman Brett Guthrie's staff will gather at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Danville City Hall. Guthrie's staff, along with Mayor Bernie Hunstad, will be available to answer questions from residents. The congressman's staff can also help with some types of paperwork. Diabetes information meeting offered A Diabetes and Information Group meeting will be held 6 p.m. April 9 at the Boyle County Health Department. Dr. Ginny Gottschalk will speak about sexual health issues in Diabetes.

Vernon H. “Hank” Powell, 80, of Greensboro, N.C., originally of Winchester, husband of Ann Andrews Powell, died Nov. 24 in Greensboro. His funeral was Nov. 28 at First Baptist Church in Greensboro, and he was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery there. At that point, there will be a nominal fee of $5 per year for unlimited online access. Print subscribers who do not wish to access the web do not have to pay the $5. For those who do not subscribe to the paper and wish to have unlimited web access, the fee will be $18.75 per year.

Maria Montgomery of Danville, who is Miss Kentucky USA, is helping with the Miss Teen USA pageant in the Bahamas. The pageant will not be televised but can be viewed online at 8 p.m. Friday at: www.missteenusa.com . Montgomery was one of nine Miss USA contestants selected to help with the 2009 Miss Teen USA competition and the Miss USA Fantasy Camp.
