Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Granderson of Nicholasville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Marissa Jean Granderson to Jordan Montgomery Perciful, son of Mr. And Mrs. John Perciful of Louisville. The wedding is planned for Dec. 13 in Bowling Green. Marissa is a graduate of West Jessamine High School and Western Kentucky University and is an elementary art teacher with Warren County Public Schools in Bowling Green. Jordan is a senior at Western Kentucky University and completing his Bachelor's degree in graphic design.

Julie Wilkinson of Ashville Ala., announces the engagement of her daughter, Melissa Margaret Wilkinson to B.T. Mastin, son of Tim and Connie Mastin of Winchester. Ms. Wilkinson, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Edward Good of Athens, Ga., is a 2004 Valedictorian-graduate of Moody High School. She will graduate Magna Cum Laude in May from Western Kentucky University, where she is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry. Mr. Mastin, grandson of Mr. Raymond Greene and the late Paulina Greene of Winchester and the late Bert and Lola Mastin of Clay City, is a 2003 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School.

Lisa Terrell of Danville and Danny Terrell of Moreland announce the engagement of their daughter, Brittan Lee Terrell to Benjamin Tyler Greene, son of Jayne and Nels Hunstad of Danville and Tony Greene of Hustonville. The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Boyle County High School and a 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and dietetics. She recently received her master's degree from Eastern Kentucky in community nutrition. The groom-elect is a 2005 graduate of Danville High School and a 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor of arts  degree in history and social studies with a minor in photography.

During his days at Boyle County and Western Kentucky University, Brandon Smith was a quarterback and set numerous records during his prep career. Now he's the defensive coordinator at South Warren High School and has two players - defensive tackle Adrian Middleton and linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe. Middleton has offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana State, Western and Middle Tennessee. Iyiegbuniwe only has an offer from Western so far, but Smith expects more schools to soon offer Iyiegbuniwe.

While sitting surrounded by some of the great Kentucky journalists, their supporters and a few budding reporters, John Nelson, executive editor of Advocate Communications, which includes The Advocate-Messenger and the Winchester Sun, was inducted Tuesday, along with three others, into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Nelson, who began his career in the early 1970s, is noted for his efforts in pushing for open government in Kentucky, overseeing the first open records audit of the state while president of the Kentucky Press Association in 2004.

President's scholar Cecily Allen, daughter of Mark and Susie Alien of Danville, achieved the designation of President's Scholar at Western Kentucky University for the Fall 2012 semester. To be selected for this honor, one must compile an academic standing of 3.8 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. Cecily attends the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky on the WKU campus where she is a senior in high school. In addition, Cecily recently spoke at the Gifted Proclamation Day in Frankfort celebrating gifted studies in Kentucky.

Jo and Dwight Willis of Nicholasville, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Adrienne Tyler Willis, to Joshua Ryan Dicken, son of Mrs. Martha Griffin of Dawsonville, Ga., and Mr. Johnny Dicken of  Mt. Sterling. Tyler is a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where she earned her bachelor of science in communication disorders. She is a member of the Delta Gamma Chapter of Kappa Delta sorority. Tyler received her master's from the University of Kentucky in communication disorders.

Earlier this week, Western Kentucky University football coach Willie Taggart criticized students in Bowling Green who like to wear blue and white University of Kentucky attire. Regardless of the reasoning, Taggart wasn't happy. Maybe he was trying to get students in Bowling Green to show pride in their school. Maybe he was fired up about his team's contest against Kentucky Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. For whatever reason, Taggart voiced his concern over his next opponent's uniform color and students who chose to wear Kentucky attire on campus during game week in Bowling Green.

Twenty-eight students have received scholarships totaling $30,000 from two Mercer County endowments held by the Wilderness Trace Community Foundation. Established in 1993 by C. B. Rowland, The Rowland Family Scholarship supports post-secondary education in Kentucky for students from Mercer and Boyle counties. Special consideration is given to qualifying children of current and former employees of Harrod Cleaners and R.V. Cablevision. Since 1993, the Rowland Family Scholarship Fund has distributed 246 awards.

LOUISVILLE - The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame will hold its 10th anniversary induction ceremony Friday, June 15, welcoming five legendary Kentucky football players. The ceremony, taking place at the Louisville Palace, will feature all five inductees and special recognition of NFL Hall of Famer and University of Louisville great Johnny Unitas. This year's inductees are Rob Bironas, Mo Moorman, Dan Neal, Bubba Paris and Chris Redman . Former George Rogers Clark standout Vinny Zollo has narrowed his list to two schools in a search for a new collegiate home. Zollo played his freshman season at Western Kentucky University last year, before opting to transfer following the season. Zollo visited several schools during the past month, but will choose between Furman University and Iona College and likely will make a decision by the end of the week.  Furman went 15-16 last season and lost to Davidson in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament, while Iona lost to Brigham Young University in the opening round of the NCAA¿Tournament at the Dayton Arena.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky coach John Calipari wasn't surprised when pairings for the NCAA Tournamentwere announced Sunday. The Wildcats (31-2) received the overall No. 1 seed and will compete in the South Regional, but the road back to New Orleans won't be an easy task. Kentucky, which plays the winner of Tuesday's first-round encounter between Western Kentucky University and Mississippi Valley State, could face defending national champion Connecticut in the third round, followed by potential matchups against Indiana and Duke in the regional semifinals and finals at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
