Redshirt freshman tight end Jordan Aumiller of Boyle County sprained his foot sometime during Saturday’s win over Louisville and his status is “day to day” as the Wildcats prepare to host Western Kentucky Saturday. Kentucky coach Joker Phillips says he’s not sure when Aumiller, he had two catches for 23 yards — including one on UK’s final series — got hurt because he did not tell anyone until after the game. “He’s got to keep making plays.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky completed its 2008 football schedule by adding in-state rival Western Kentucky. The Wildcats will host Western on Sept. 27 in Commonwealth Stadium. That's when Temple was originally scheduled to play the Wildcats before it opted out of the deal. Kentucky and Western, which was 7-5 last as it started its transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision, have never played in football. Western was 7-5 last year. The Hilltoppers have a strong local presence with six former area standouts on the roster.

Nov. 28, 1987 It's back to the battlefield for the Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky football teams. For the first time since 1916, the intrastate rivals are playing each other twice in a season. Eastern Kentucky won 20-10 when they met Oct. 3 in Richmond during the regular season. This Saturday night they'll meet again at EKU's Hanger Field for the first round of the NCAA¿Division I-AA playoffs. Drizzle was expected to change to snow flurries tonight as cold weather continues to keep a grip on Kentucky, according to the National Weather Service.

It's time to get serious. After more than a month of workouts, the Kentucky football team shifted its focus to Western Kentucky Monday. Thomas Reed and his family, of Missouri, recently came to Danville to investigate and find information about his relationship to Kentucky pioneer Thomas Reed. Thomas began his family search in 1961 with records in Missouri and he learned about the pioneer Reeds who were in Danville in the late 1700s. The current Thomas Reed goes back to pioneer Thomas Reed (1763-1817), and his wife, Rosella, who married Sept. 10, 1787. They had six children, including Thomas Jr., who came from Virginia to Kentucky.

Kentucky's country ham industry can now lay claim to a prize specimen worth a half-million dollars, thanks to some spirited bidding, and generous financial support of First Southern National Bank. Representatives from First Southern National Bank, headquartered in Stanford, purchased the state's grand champion ham for a price of $500,000 at the 43rd annual Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast and charity auction, hosted by Kentucky Farm Bureau, at the Kentucky State Fair. This year's grand champion ham was a 17.26-pound offering, exhibited by Broadbent's B & B Food Products of Cadiz.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky will get starting offensive tackle Garry Williams back for its game Saturday against Western Kentucky, but coach Rich Brooks was not overly optimistic three other injured starters would play. Williams, a preseason all-Southeastern Conference selection, missed the last two games because of an ankle injury suffered against Louisville. "He practiced yesterday and will play," Brooks said Monday. "He will move back into the starting lineup. " Backup quarterback Randall Cobb remains out "indefinitely" with the sprained ankle he suffered in the first half against Middle Tennessee in UK's last game.

The annual Kentucky Football Fan Day is Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. Gates 4 and 9 open at 6:30 p.m. when posters and schedule cards will be given away, and the first 2,000 fans will receive a coupon for a free hot dog and drink during Fan Day. Coach Rich Brooks and the team will be introduced at 7:15 p.m., followed by an autograph session with coaches and players that ends at 9. There will be a limit of two autographs per player and coach....

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Numbers and notes from Kentucky's 84-70 win over Vanderbilt Saturday. Kentucky has won 43 of its last 49 road games and have now won 17 straight games against Southeastern Conference opponents. Kentucky's 17-2 record is its best start since the national championship season of 1997-98 when UK went 19-2. The Wildcats are 13-1 when scoring over 70 points this year. Kentucky shot 49.2 percent (31-for-63) from the field to just miss topping the 50 percent mark for the fifth time in the last seven games.
