Winter weather is slowly but steadily making its way into the central Kentucky area. The National Weather Service in Louisville has placed Boyle, Garrard and Mercer counties under a winter storm warning until midnight Thursday. As of 9 a.m. Thursday, snow and an icy mix had moved east across I-65 and was approaching the Bluegrass. According to the warning, light snow, sleet and possibly freezing rain is expected to develop late Thursday morning and continue through late Thursday evening.

The first real blast of wintry weather this season took its toll on area schools and events today. Boyle County, Burgin Independent. Garrard County and Mercer County schools dismissed students at 1 p.m. today, while Harrodsburg Independent dismissed at 12:10. Central Kentucky Christian school in Harrodsburg sent students home at 12:30 p.m. Danville Independent Schools did not dismiss early, but all aftershool activities have been cancelled, including the ESS classes and the Bate Middle School basketball game and the choir concert.
