Travis Leffew didn't need long to make an impression on teammates with the Chicago Bears. Leffew was taught both at Boyle County High School and the University of Louisville to always go full speed not only during drills, but going from drill to drill as well. However, the veteran professional players let him know not to rush the way he was between drills. "In the NFL, the linemen actually do the big-man shuffle and jog to drills. They let me know that pretty quick," Leffew said.

What's the difference between fun and work? At the Danville High School practice field, it's apparently about four to eight years. Four to eight years from now, many of the boys attending the Danville Youth Football Camp could be back on that field and practicing for the Admirals. By then, the drills that seem like so much fun to them this week won't be nearly so enjoyable. But for now, they're having the time of their lives learning how to play football like the big boys do it. "They're raw. They're new to football, and it's fun to see them do the drills and have fun with them," Danville assistant coach Brian Brannock said.

HARRODSBURG - When Terry Yeast was planning the first Harrodsburg Youth Football Camp, he thought it would attract about 25 kids and then he would build it up from there. Well, he must have underestimated how much kids want some summertime football. There were 35 kids at Harrodsburg Wednesday, up from 29 the day before, a turnout that more than pleased the Pioneers' head coach. "I guess it's a credit to the kids that they enjoy what we're doing. I think a lot of kids are going home and telling their friends about the camp and they're coming back with them," Yeast said.

Recruiting is not normally considered a part of a high school coach's job, especially one who has been as successful as Chuck Smith. The Boyle County head football coach has guided the Rebels to an unprecedented five straight state titles and his team has won 73 of its last 75 games. However, when Smith got to Boyle, the most important thing he might have done was start recruiting young players. "When I first came to Boyle County, the best athletes were not playing football.
