A small group of ninth-and 10th-grade girls from Wilmore United Methodist Church are on a mission - from God. “We received 21 blankets from the high-school girls' group at the church,” Wilmore fire chief Jimmy Powers said. “Basically, they were donated to us to be given out to anyone who needed them, whether it be a house fire or somebody that's going through a rough time. We've actually let the police department put some in their cruisers in case they run across somebody at a wreck scene who needs one. “It's really generous what these girls did for their community.” The blankets were received by several Wilmore firefighters and the chief during a Sunday-morning service in February after the congregation of United Methodist Church prayed over them.

WEST LIBERTY - About 130 miles and two-and-half hours separate Southside Christian Church in Harrodsburg from tornado-torn West Liberty Christian Church, but the distance has been less meaningful during a painful last week. Matthew Riley, youth pastor at Southside Christian, came back to his native Harrodsburg from West Liberty about two months ago with his wife Rachel, after serving in the same position there for almost six years. They got the news last Friday an F3 tornado had swept away much of the first town in which they lived, including the 100-year-old church where they spent so much of their time.

At The Cairn, visitors can expect live music, local art and plenty of conversation. And, of course, a good cup of coffee. A project of Calvary Christian Church, The Cairn is designed to be a place to bring community members together and offer local teenagers a safe place to hang out. “It just kind of evolved and snowballed into the vision it is now,” said Dan Jackson, project manager for The Cairn. Jackson moved to Winchester in January from Port Huron, Mich., to oversee the project during the renovation phase and develop programming for the shop after it opens.

By Aline Matlock Services on Sunday, March 1 at Waynesburg Family Worship Center were excellent. The music was very good and we also observed Communion. We always seem to want to humble ourselves in prayer. Guests were here from Louisville to speak about a drug rehab center being established in Hustonville called "Turning Point. " The center is to help people turn away from drugs, which is badly needed in this day and time. Coming with the group was a young lady named Nicky Campbell.
