It's that time of year again, when home gardens and grocery stores are sprouting up with zucchini. When you're meal planning this week, be sure to include this seasonal vegetable. With May through August being the prime season for zucchini, it is often referred to as summer squash. The actual word zucchini comes from the Italian word zucchino, which means small squash.  Zucchini is a member of the cucumber and melon family and grows on flowering plants with edible flowers.

Eek! There are monsters in our garden! That little bit of rain last week made the zucchini grow way too fast. Good thing I put in the recipe for using large zucchini last week. Hopefully, everyone knows what to do with monster squash now. One of these could easily feed a crowd. The rain last week also kicked the cucumbers into high gear. We had cucumbers left after market day and could pick many more these past few days. I made bread and butter pickles and some refrigerator dill pickles over the weekend.
