Happy-go-lucky Zumba instructor June (Kimberly Shepherd) gets a number of surprises while on holiday in the Caribbean in Pioneer Playhouse's upcoming production of “Bottoms Up!” Director Robby Henson said “Bottoms Up!” is the second reprisal at the playhouse this season. The first was “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.” Both shows were performed more than 10 years ago. “Both were plays that stuck in our memory for different reasons,” Henson explained. “'Picasso at the Lapine Agile' was chosen because it presented challenging ideas and played to the head.

NEW ORLEANS - Kay and Tommy Davis started coming to the Southeastern Conference Tournament in 1996, and the Stanford couple now considers it an annual part of their Kentucky basketball experience. “Kentucky lost to Mississippi State in New Orleans the first year we came and Rick Pitino was the coach,” said Kay Davis. “We keep coming back because of all the UK¿fans. We always meet someone new and become great friends.” In recent years, though, many of those “great friends” have come with them.

JAN. 12 Second Thursday Program at Bluegrass Heritage Museum Kentucky singer and actress Rosemary Clooney will be the subject of the Bluegrass Heritage Museum's Second Thursday Program. Bet Stewart, a Kentucky Chautauqua performer, will portray Bet Stewart, a Maysville native and share her life story. She is known for her role in “White Christmas” and songs “Come-On-a-My-House,” “Half as Much” and “This Ole House.” The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Getting in shape is now a little bit easier for Winchester residents. Studio One School of Dance, a clogging studio, recently began offering free Zumba classes for the community. Classes are Mondays, 7-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 6-7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9-10. The free trial period lasts through May. Starting in June, Zumba will be $5 per class. “It’s a lot of work, but I loved it. It’s very good cross training,” Crystal Thomas said. Thomas learned about the classes through her daughter, Mary Claire Mahanes, who clogs at Studio One. After taking her first class, Thomas said she was hooked.

Solid waste to accept old tires Boyle County Department of Solid Waste Management will accept tires 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Perryville Convenience Center. Registration is required, and only Boyle County residents may participate — tires from businesses will not be accepted.  Proof of residency will be requested. Residents must call (859) 238-1116 after 5 p.m. and leave name, telephone number and the amount of tires. Only those who have registered will be accepted.
